Trumer Brauerei in Berkeley, California, brewers of the award-winning German-style Trumer Pils, has an opening for a Lead Brewer at their 50 bbl brewery. At Trumer we focus in great detail on the process and on excellence in brewing and operational fundamentals. The Lead Brewer - Operations duties will be focused on the filtration and packaging areas, with cross-training in brewhouse and cellar operations.
Principle duties:
- Operations: includes Filtration, Racking, Bottling, Brewhouse, Cellaring and Warehouse
o Operate packaging duties and all packaging machinery as do other staff on packaging days, as scheduled by Operations Manager
o Operate brewhouse and cellars, as scheduled by Head Brewer
o Supervise operations and brewing staff in area currently working
o Vacation relief for Operations Manager
o Cover vacation/sick absences by working the appropriate shift and duty
o Cover finishing shift duties as needed during daily operations (lunch breaks)
o Train new personnel in specific tasks according to our SOP’s
o Be attentive of process, COGS, discuss potential improvements with Operations Manager and Master Brewer to obtain approval; update procedures as needed
o Order materials and spare parts as needed, write PO’s in JDE
- Inventories
o Weekly inventory counts of all operations goods inventory according to the inventory count sheet; track usages
o Order materials and spare parts as needed, write PO’s in JDE
- Quality Control
o Responsible for daily quality checks as appropriate for the shift duties, including CO2, DO, gravities, pH, cell counts and other checks as necessary.
- General:
o Work Safely
o Participate in training and safety programs
o Cover for Lead Brewer – Brewing and Cellars as needed
o Assist the maintenance department as needed by physical support or helping get parts and scheduling repairs, entering Purchase Orders.
o Warehouse coverage as needed
o Special projects and other duties as requested
o Give tours as needed.
o Represent the brewery at public events such as beer festivals.
Requirements
o 2-4 years’ work experience, ideally in production facility
o Degree or certification from established Brewing Science program
