I'm going to purchase the polycast pre-sloped channel, I'm curious about the stainless steel edging. The edging is 1/4 of the total cost of the trench drain system. Does the edging prevent the trench drain edges from getting chipped from putting in/taking out grates? Just wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom to share?

Was wondering same thing. Was leaning toward no edges unless they really are necessary.

From a chemical/corrosive standpoint, the stainless edge rails aren't necessary for a polymer concrete system. They do protect the edges from impact if anything is dropped on them. And, if you take out grates to clean the system, over the years those grates will get looser... traffic going across can start wiggling them a bit, which will start chipping away at the channel.

So, I'd say not 100% necessary but helpful in the long run.
