    JOB TITLE: Lead Brewer
    LOCATION: Brewery, Comstock, MI
    REPORTS TO: Beer Production Assistant Manager
    POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Hourly Employee
    SHIFT: 1st shift Monday-Friday 5:00am-1:30pm
    EXTERNAL POSTING DATES: 11/11/2015-11/29/2015

    SUMMARY: As a key member of the Beer Production leadership team, the Lead Brewer will be responsible for all day-to-day Beer Production activities and oversight of brewers on their assigned shifts.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery, Inc. and is accountable for the safety of his/her direct reports.
    •Leads all day-to-day Beer Production activities on assigned shift.
    •Facilitates communication within his/her team, between shifts, with Beer Production management and with other departments.
    •Promotes cooperation and teamwork
    •Ensures Bell’s quality standards through all Beer Production activities.
    •Advocates a continuous improvement culture through close collaboration with the Process Improvement team.
    •Manages team’s scheduling and timecards.
    •Actively engages his/her team towards developing their professional goals.
    •Conducts quarterly updates and annual performance reviews with all direct reports.
    •Effectively represents team’s needs in regularly scheduled Beer Production meetings regarding production scheduling, beer quality, and human resources.
    •Consistently administers Bell’s policies and procedures on his/her shift.
    •Assists in developing, maintaining and ensuring compliance to all department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in collaboration with subject matter experts.
    •Holds self and employees accountable for maintaining a sanitary and micro-biologically stable work environment.
    •Ensures completion of Brewer Preventative Maintenance tasks in collaboration with the Beer Production Assistant Manager.
    •Reviews and acts upon critical process control data.
    •Troubleshoots and solves production problems in a systematic fashion.
    •Works off shifts including weekends and holidays as needed
    •Responsible for selecting and training of new Beer Production team members for assigned shift.
    •May be asked to represent Bell’s Brewery in various educational and promotional events.

    MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •1st shift Production Brewers

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    •Computers and other process automation systems
    •Brewing raw materials
    •Cleaning and sanitizing chemicals
    •Pumps, hoses, valves, clamps, gaskets, and other brewery equipment
    •Fork lift/aerial lift truck
    •Compressed air or other gasses, including CO2.

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Exceptional leadership skills.
    •Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort addressing diverse groups.
    •Computer skills necessary to quickly learn Bells’ software systems.
    •An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards who will positively represent Bell’s Brewery both internally and externally.
    •A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
    •Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes at one time.
    •Self-motivated with good time management skills.
    •Ability to coordinate with other departments according to schedule.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •Extensive brewery experience, including roles in leadership positions.
    •Enthusiasm for craft beer and a commitment to quality.
    •Demonstrated understanding of the brewing process.
    •Outstanding communication and problem solving skills.
    •A brewing, science, engineering or similar education background is preferred.

    •Must be able to participate in critical assessment of beers.

    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.

    •The employee frequently must work in a sanitary environment.
    •The employee may work in a loud environment.
    •The employee may occasionally enter a confined space.
