BREWERY PRODUCTION MANAGER – IMMEDIATE OPENING
Ardent Craft Ales is searching for a Brewery Production Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of our brewery in Richmond, Virginia.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
The Production Manager is responsible for all aspects of the brewing operation including: raw materials management, production scheduling, yeast propagation, brewing, batch record keeping, conditioning, packaging, and quality assurance. In addition, he or she is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the brewery area, brewing equipment, and cooperage. The Production Manager will be in charge of hiring, training, and, when necessary, firing brewery staff. He or she is expected to regularly communicate with the General Manger and Head Brewer to keep them informed on the activities in the brewery, changes to the production schedule, and any other issues that may arise.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
Education
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Brewing and industry certifications preferred
• Certified Beer Server and Certified Cicerone status. The candidate will possess, or procure within 30 days of employment, a passing grade on the Certified Beer Server test located at Cicerone.org. In addition, the candidate will possess or procure within an agreed upon timeline, a Certified Cicerone certificate.
Experience
• 3 to 5 years of brewing experience
• 2 to 3 years people management experience
Skills
• Strong understanding of brewing science
• Strong understanding of brewery process and procedure best practices
• Exceptional analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills
• Excellent planning and organizational skills
• Strong mechanical and problem solving skills
• Solid people management skills
• Solid interpersonal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Power Point
PHYSICAL & OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements
An employee in this position works primarily in a manufacturing environment, working in, on, and around vessels and pipes under pressure containing air, CO2, water, beer, chemicals, steam, and hazardous chemicals. The nature of the position requires one to frequently reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as to ascend and descend staircase repeatedly throughout shift. As the work areas are mechanical in nature and may be elevated, the employee may be required to complete fall protection training and/or special training for entering for confined spaces. The Production Manager will do a significant amount of walking and work on wet slippery surfaces. Process temperatures vary from 32F to 212F, a fact which ensures varying ambient temperature conditions. The Production Manager may encounter some level of dust from the handling of malt raw materials and will be frequently exposed to strong and sometimes disagreeable odors as well as occasionally exposed to caustic and acidic chemicals. The Production Manager will be expected to handle objects weighing up to 170 pounds occasionally and/or objects weighing up to 55 pounds frequently. The employee in this position must be able to operate employer-provided vehicle and forklift.
Other Requirements
The employee in this position works primarily in a manufacturing environment, but this position also requires he/she to use a computer approximately 25% of the time. While the Production Manger works primarily at the brewery, he/she must have the ability to travel when required. The Brewer must be able to work on a flexible schedule, and will often work nights, weekends, and holidays.
