    Cisco Brewers has an immediate opening for “The Brewer” in Nantucket, MA. This exciting small batch, specialty and limited release brewer position is responsible for the continued development of innovative beers to support sales and marketing initiatives, and will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of this small batch brewery. This unique role will also serve as a Beer Educator by conducting a variety of brand/beer tastings and trainings, internally with Cisco Brewers staff as well as externally with wholesalers, retailers and consumers. The role relies on significant relevant experience and good judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The positions also performs a variety of other related tasks for Cisco Brewers, as assigned.

    Specific job duties:
    • Support the Company’s vision and strategic mission.
    • Operate the small batch brewery, coordinate and execute beer innovation, as well as conduct beer/ingredient tasting and beer school training for Cisco Brewers.
    • Research innovation trends in key markets to innovate and develop beers to support sales and marketing efforts.
    • Oversee inventory and quality management of raw materials, including unique ingredients and specialty components.
    • Source raw materials needed in the development of innovative, reserve, and standard island beers.
    • Keep accurate daily production records per company , state and federal requirements.
    • Develop, update and maintain, brewery Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Continually maintain all beer production areas including equipment for efficient and effective use along with an eye toward GMP (mill equipment, brewhouse vessels, fermentation & Bright vessels, filtration equipment and CIP skid, Malt & Hop storage area).
    • Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules to maintain a clean working environment.
    • Oversee inventory of brewing aides and chemicals.
    • Follow all safety procedures, including periodic handling of hazardous chemicals.
    • Ability to perform basic Quality Assurance procedures such as aseptic sampling, yeast cell counting, sensory and taste, measure CO2 , understanding of packaged Oxygen, understanding of microbiological stability.
    • Identify cost-saving initiatives (beer and material loss, brewing efficiencies, etc.) and develop and lead corrective action plans.
    • Management of the small batch brewery budget as it pertains to travel, competition fees and event support.
    • Periodic travel to support Cisco Brewers commercial team in any variety of ways, such as tastings, interviews, videos, “brewer dinners”, etc.
    • Arrange personal travel schedules, as well as create own presentation materials using PowerPoint.
    • In conjunction with the Sales and Marketing Teams:
    • Develop wholesaler portfolio education programs
    • Conduct wholesaler brand training in various markets
    • Participate in key national or regional craft brewing events and help create and execute festival and competition beers relative to various brands and categories
    • Participate in a variety of brewers’ dinners and food pairing events
    • Conduct “hands-on” beer schools for retailers, sales teams and Cisco Brewers staff
    • Attend major brewing conferences and key national brewing festivals
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    Position requirements:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Brewing or brewing-related field, or equivalent experience in a related field. Professional certification from AOB, IBD, or similar training preferred.
    • 5+ years of creative craft brewing experience including strong product/beer development skills with extensive knowledge of brewing raw materials and components.
    • Strong technical knowledge of brewing, fermentation and the finishing stage of beer production.
    • Ability to execute beer development
    • Strong attention to detail and quality
    • Strong time management skills
    • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with work.
    • Flexible work schedule including periodic weekend and holiday duty
    • Must possess excellent analytical and organizational skills, as well as proven effective public communications skills, both orally and in writing.
