Director of Brewing Operations
Right Brain Brewery, located in Traverse City, Michigan, near the shores of Lake Michigan, seeks a qualified individual to oversee brewing operations. We brewed 4800 barrels (including a GABF medal winner) in 2015, and we foresee 20-30 percent growth (and more medals) in 2016. This is a management position and reports directly to the owner.
Position summary:
• Oversee all brewing operations and report directly to owner
• Conduct quarterly employee reviews with brewing staff, assisted by Operations Manager
• Oversee production schedule, including long and short term planning and handling, and purchasing materials and supplies. Work directly with Operations Manager for all purchasing.
• Oversee Head Brewer. Implement more efficient brewing practices. Help with arranging raw materials. Oversee shift brewers and cellar persons to ensure quality standards are being met. Enforce SOP with each brewery employee.
• Oversee yeast management and help further develop lab. Assist with hiring a Quality Control supervisor and implementing Quality Control procedures.
• Ensure safety oversight. Hold employees accountable for safety measures and training. Conduct monthly safety meetings and yearly safety updates.
• Work with Packaging Manager to ensure brewery is on schedule, filling package in a timely manner, and getting product on trucks.
• Manage employees to stage orders, load trucks properly in full, on time, matching inventory with invoice.
• Utilize inventory management software.
• Coordinate with Marketing and Sales Directors to plan seasonal releases, one-off brews, signature brands management, etc.
• Represent brewery at GABF, National and Michigan Brewers conferences. Make occasional appearances in market.
