In 1896, what is now Calgary was touted as the best, un-developed place in the world to farm, settle and build a homestead. The Canadian government promised land and prosperity to foreigners and easterners alike; promoting our region as the Last Best West. The campaign was a tremendous success, and over a hundred years later we’re privileged to live in a sea of the best malting barley in the world. The craft brewing and distilling scene in Alberta is still young, after regulation changes in 2013 blew the market wide open. Flanked by the Rocky Mountains in malting heartland, as it was then, it remains today; one of the Last Best places to brew and distill in the world.
Last Best Brewing & Distilling is looking for a brewer to join our existing production team. We’re a production brewery, craft distillery, restaurant (and whiskey lounge and barbershop) with distribution in and around Calgary, Alberta. Part of the Bearhill Brewing group (Banff Ave Brewing, Jasper Brewing, Wood Buffalo Brewing), for the past 11 years we’ve been making beers that reflect our communities.
We’re looking for an experienced brewer and/or distiller (minimum 1 years commercial experience) to slot straight into our existing team and hit the ground running. All our brewers work rotating shifts that cover the brewhouse, cellar and distilling. We make time in our production schedule so that all brewers can contribute to new beers, pilots, seasonal releases or revamping our existing lineup. Our distilling program is focused on aged-spirits production, however we’re looking to release our first gin soon. We’re in the process of building an analytical lab, a sensory lab, more space for playing with barrels and will be expanding our brewing & distilling capacity later this year.
We’re actively developing relationships with farmers and maltsters to support our brewing operations and offer a unique opportunity for brewers to bridge the gap between producer and consumer. The gig: Brewer, Last Best Brewing & Distilling.
The place: Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Kickoff: May 2016.
Pay: Hourly based on experience. We offer competitive wages and benefits packages along with all the perks that come with a brewpub.
Hours: Full time.
Minimum requirements: 1 year commercial brewing experience. Must have a valid SIN and be able to work in Canada. This includes Canadian citizens, permanent residents, landed immigrants or temporary foreign workers with valid work visas.
