  • Need help with tank lights!!!

We have these tank lights that are complete junk. When we use LEDs in them they start blinking after about 15 min (can't handle the heat). We have also tried a halogen light that isn't bright enough and gets too hot. My thinking is that the housing should be redesigned but Im not sure. Is there anything else that would fit this off the shelf that anyone is aware of? Any suggestions? Click image for larger version

Ah, Zongde tank lights. Yes, they are crap.

Take them completely apart and rebuild with a standard type light socket. Wrap the guts and wires with a lot of electrical tape.

Buy 24v bulbs from link below. They are somewhat shorter than standard light bulbs and will fit into the new fixture guts.

SKU # 16175 Medium Screw Base Lamp, 24V Bulb, 50 watt

Another option would be to convert the control panel kettle lamp relay to 120vac and use a similar or small frame standard bulb.

The Zongde tank fittings are DIN. It is easy to rebuild the fixture to accept a standard bulb, or just to rebuild it so the bare wires don't ground out against the bare metal fixture. All parts are available from the hardware store and with a little electrical knowledge can repair these lamps with a little effort.
