  • Wort Pump Recommendation. 3.5 bbl Transfer

We are currently doing two 3bbl transfers per day with a 1/8hp pump. Considering using our TF-C100MD 3/4hp CIP pump as a wort pump. Wondering if there's anything i should consider. As I know it can move water like nobodies business and I don't want to ruin the beer.

Would it be more acceptable once we are moving more beer? (7bbl, or 10bbl) Or should we run the pump with a VFD?

    Thanks

VFD. Slowing the impeller will be much easier on your wort.

Using the larger pump and VFD, it'll be easy to scale-up as you grow--just change the speed of the VFD.

If you don't need to change the settings on the VFD very often, buy a NEMA 1 enclosure VFD and put it in a NEMA 4 box. You'll save a couple hundred bucks.

One thing I forgot--a wort pump seal will last much, much longer if it is of the wetted or washed style--with a stream of cold water running over the seal. Wort gums up and eats seals otherwise.
