  • Welding "thin" steel for extra ferrules

Looking at some stainless steel wine storage tanks to possibly turn into an electric brew kettle. The tanks wall is 0.8 mm/22 gauge thick. Does anyone know if this type of stainless steel is too thin to weld on multiple TC ferrules?

    Thank you!

Can it be done, yes. Will you need someone very good at stainless welding, yes. You will be in the sub 30A range running pulse and needing to back-purge everything to get a sanitary weld. If you can find a dairy welder I would say it can be done reasonably well. Don't drag the tank to a random welding shop or I think you will be in for a bad experience.

You definitely, 100%, for sure need a certified sanitary welder for this. I do my own, but have 15+ years of experience welding sanitary fittings in stainless.

Stainless is actually very easy to weld, but getting a clean, sanitary weld is difficult.
