  • Head Brewer Needed for West Virginia Production Brewery

    Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company (GVBC) is a production brewery located in the beautiful Greenbrier Valley of West Virginia. We are looking for the right person to help our 2-year-old fast growing brewery grow into a regional brewery while maintaining a positive work environment.

    Brewery
    GVBC utilizes a 20 HL 3 vessel fully automated Aegir brewing system with a Meura mash filter and is designed to produce a clean high gravity wort at high brew house efficiencies. GVBC is distributed throughout WV and in SW Virginia and has a reputation as one of the top breweries in the state. Expansion throughout Virginia will continue this year and plans for 2017 are to expand into Ohio and Kentucky.

    Summary of Brewer Position
    Head Brewer is responsible for all facets of beer production, cellar operations, and packaging oversight including but not limited to wort production, fermentation management, yeast management, and record keeping. Brewer is also expected to be in charge of grain and hop orders and maintaining the current and future hop contracts. Brewer will also be asked to assist management in establishing production goals that maximize volume output.

    General Requirements
    • Experience as a head brewer in a production brewery, 3-year minimum
    • Accredited brewing education is preferred but not required in lieu of experience
    • Be an ambassador of the Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company
    • Flexible work schedule, willing to work some weekends and some long days
    • Organizational skills and multitasking to ensure smooth workflow on the brew floor
    • Willingness to take charge of the brewing process start to finish, including directing your own staff to responsibly handle various tasks under your supervision
    • Technical knowledge in all aspects of the brewing process, wort production, fermenting, conditioning, packaging
    • Experience in Kegging and Canning a plus
    • Results oriented mindset with a good attitude willing to work with management
    • Troubleshoot problems that arise in brewing environment and perform basic maintenance
    • Mechanical aptitude
    • Develop new beer recipes, focusing on creativity to produce sought after craft beers
    • Perform quality control and quality assurance testing, Lab experience is a plus
    • Describe beer flavors as well as ability to describe off flavors and work with team in understanding these flavors
    • Management skills that drive performance and a positive attitude, calmness under pressure
    • Maintain documentation of production activities, Create SOP’s
    • Operate a forklift
    Physical Requirements
    • Move 50lb sacks of grain and full 165 lb. kegs
    • Climb stairs and ladders
    • Work with dangerous equipment, at high noise levels, and hazardous materials
    • Write legibly
    • Working in hot, cold and wet conditions
