Dear [Future Portner Brewhouse Brewmaster],
We are excited for you to join our family at Portner Brewhouse and be a part of the great return of Portner beer to Alexandria, VA after a 100-year hiatus! The original founder, Robert Portner, a German immigrant, made his way to Alexandria just prior to the Civil War opening a brewery in response to solider demand. From humble beginnings, he built the South’s largest brewery utilizing the rail system for distribution to depots from Alexandria to the Caribbean! In 1916, Virginia enacted Prohibition and the Robert Portner Brewing Company ceased operations…until now.
Today, you join Robert’s great-great granddaughters, Catherine and Margaret, in their quest to celebrate the pursuit and achievement of the American Dream back where it all began. You were selected because you possess the qualities that we knew would help you be successful at Portner Brewhouse and a valued member of the team including:
• Enthusiasm for managing & producing quality, consistent beers with our new 3.5bbl brewery
• Drive and desire to assist the next generation of brewers as the lead of the Craft Beer Test Kitchen®
• Experience in a brewpub setting for at least the last three (3) years
• Interest in local brewing history and innovations
• Ability to problem solve, communicate well with colleagues and brewpub guests
• Inquisitive nature to plan, experiment and share new creations with the community
• Collaboration with others and to continually improve knowledge base in the industry
We hope you are ready to get started as we are only a few months away from the grand opening and the family’s triumphant return to Alexandria.
