Essential Functions and Duties
This role will typically be a 2nd shift weekend role (Saturday & Sunday 11am-11pm, plus Monday and Friday shifts 3pm-11:30pm), managing day to day operations of the brewhouse and related support functions / raw materials (grains, hops, etc.) with prioritized focus on Safety, Quality, Productivity and Sanitation for assigned shift, ensuring appropriate follow-ups on prior shift carry-over items and detailed, clear communication to management team and next shift brewer.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
• Thorough & timely communication with shift supervisor, maintenance, lab & cellar personnel for effective and efficient shift execution
• Participate in shift kick-off meetings and ensure effective shift change meetings with on-coming / off-going brewers
• Document events and results of shift, communicating to all stakeholders in defined processes
• Manage wort production in the 75 barrel brewhouse through all steps
• Maintain quality parameters at all times, documenting all exceptions
• CIP of 75 bbl brewhouse, documenting critical control points
• Work with prescribed cleaning chemicals, based upon established usage, OSHA, and MSDS requirements
• Maintain the cleanliness of the brewhouse and related areas
• Data entry for 75 bbl brews in all applicable systems
• Track inventory of malt and hops, communicating discrepancies in timely manner
• Provide required samples for laboratory analyses
• Clean and maintain brewing safety equipment
• Monitor brewing equipment mechanical and operational integrity; document maintenance issues to appropriate personnel
• Responsible for completion of all brewing reports
• Attend and contribute to process and staff meetings
• Proactive involvement with other responsibilities and project work, as assigned
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in science or technically related field of study
Work Experience
• Three years of work experience in brewing industry
Required Qualifications
• Ability to work independently and make data based decisions & judgment calls
• Ability to operate in a team environment
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a faced pace environment
• Ability to influence others in a positive and supportive manner
• Experience with computer systems and able to function in Microsoft Office software suite
• Willingness to work flexible and extended hours as needed
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 55 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
• Understands and utilizes Appreciative Inquiry
• Understands Lean principles with a focus on processes
• In-depth knowledge of brewing raw materials, suppliers & industry
• Five years of experience in brewing industry, preferably in brewing operations related roles
• Understanding of cellar operation, with ability to assist cellar personnel in cellar operation and troubleshooting
Licensure / Certification
• Brewing or related certification from a recognized organization highly preferred
