  • brewpub trench drain

If our brewpub is only foot traffic and light use (no fork lifts etc.)is there a recommended lighter duty trench drain that would be applicable for our situation?

My current brewery is too small for a forklift, so we went with something like this:

Been working fine now for 3 years. Looks a little beat up, but the price is right.

Typically robust trench drains are about $1000 like this one from Watts:
A leading manufacturer of water quality solutions. Water safety, flow control, backflow prevention, drainage. Learn more about our products!

It's industrial grade and will probably outlast your business. Why cheap out? In the grand scheme of things the price is pretty low compared to replacing a less robust model.

What kind of traffic do you have in the brewery? We won't have a forklift but will the plastic grates (or more importantly, the trench itself) stand up to pallet jack traffic long-term?

Beer is like porn. You can buy it, but it's more fun to make your own.

Can't say with absolute certainty, but it's unlikely. A pallet of grain weighs a metric tonne. A pallet of full bottles weighs 800 kg or more. A pallet of double stacked 1/2 bbl kegs weighs 1.2 tonnes.

I wouldn't trust a plastic grate with that sort of load. Even though the Watts drain is made of high impact plastic, it has a reinforced metal grate that we've driven over with our forklift hundreds of times.

Yeah I wouldn't run a full pallet on a jack over my home depot specials. I've got 1.5bbl fermenters on casters which I roll around the long way just to be safe, and also because they're kind of tippy anyway. The few times I did actually need to run over them (moving in a new tank) I ended up putting down steel plate just to be safe.

But heat and chemicals? Works like a charm.
