    JOB TITLE: Packaging Manager
    LOCATION: Comstock Brewery
    REPORTS TO: Production Manager
    FLSA POSITION TYPE: Full- Time, Salaried Exempt
    POSTING DATES: 10/3/2016-10/23/2016

    POSITION SUMMARY: Provides the direction and management that builds and sustains a world-class, safety-driven, quality-focused, high-performing and diverse packaging team.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery, Inc., and is accountable for the safety of their department.
    •Successfully builds rapport, respect and camaraderie, both inter- and intra-departmentally, through exceptional coaching, teambuilding and training.
    •Trains and mentors Packaging department Managers.
    •Assists the Production Manager in developing and implementing training programs for the packaging staff.
    •Works closely with the Packaging Personnel Manager(s) to address developing personnel concerns.
    •Leads meetings of direct reports to ensure effective communication throughout the department and company as a whole.
    •Ensures that a quality focus is integral to all aspects of Packaging department operations.
    •Oversees Technical Packaging and leads efforts toward continuous improvement of real time packaging quality key performance indicators
    •Oversees department initiatives that ensure packaging areas are organized, clean and sanitary.
    •Leads the Packaging Materials Coordinator (PMC) to ensure quality packaging materials are available to complete the packaging schedule.
    •Oversees accuracy of Microsoft AX packaging materials inventories and Package Production Information within Packaging Department with the PMC.
    •Works closely with the Beer Production and Logistics departments to ensure the timely completion of the Packaging Schedule.
    •Supports the Maintenance Manager to ensure all equipment is running safely, at high efficiency and maintained to the highest standards.
    •Works in conjunction with Maintenance Manager to schedule and develop preventative maintenance routines.
    •Interfaces with the Engineers to design and install new packaging equipment as needed.
    •As a MaPS team member, works to assure that an effective planning and communication process for brewery production is promoted throughout the Bells organization.
    •Continuously improves safety, quality and efficiencies while reducing cost and complexity.
    •Establishes key performance indicators and associated feedback processes to assess Packaging departments' performance against standards and objectives.
    •Routinely examines material performance and production data to ensure efficient utilization of all packaging resources.
    •Works with Quality Department on investigation of Beer Lover Concerns.
    •Maintains Traceability of Packaging Materials per HACCP protocols.
    •Reviews packaging material purchase agreements and contracts to optimize material pricing and quality.
    •Periodically researches, sources and audits packaging material vendors.
    •Oversees the development and upkeep of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    •Is informed about, educates on, and implements industry best practices.
    •Calculates and authors periodic Packaging Materials, Efficiency and Quality reports.
    •Conducts critical assessment of Bell’s beers through active participation in beer sensory panels.
    •May use the company vehicle for deliveries and travel.
    •Assists bottling, kegging and canning shifts, occasional forklift operation, as needed.
    •Flexible schedule. 24-hour, 7-day on-call status, required.

    Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Five (5) brewery packaging lines. (Two bottling, one keg, one can, and one 5l mini keg line).
    •Four (4) direct reports (Two Packaging Personnel Managers, Technical Packaging Manager and Packaging Materials Coordinator).

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
    •Must possess a valid driver’s license
    •Access to a personal vehicle.

    •A variety of hand and power tools
    •Cleaning agents and other hazardous chemicals
    •Desktop computer ( Word, Excel and Outlook)

    •Compressed air or other gasses, including C02
    •Company Vehicle

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Exceptional leadership skills.
    •Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable addressing diverse groups.
    •Strong computer skills necessary to quickly learn Bells’ software systems.
    •An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards who will positively represent Bell’s Brewery both internally and externally.
    •A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
    •Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes at one time.
    •Self-motivated with good time management skills.
    •A demonstrated ability to assess priorities effectively.
    •Strong problem solving and analysis skills.
    •Interpersonal skills sufficient to be comfortable leading in a team environment with a great deal of interdepartmental coordination.
    •An understanding of the role of sanitation in the packaging process.
    •The ability and aptitude to work with and troubleshoot packaging equipment.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent expertise in Packaging, Food Science, Engineering or other relevant field.
    •A minimum of 5 years Management/Leadership experience, preferably at a brewery or other food production facility.
    •Prior significant experience as a packaging operator.

    •Ability to lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and occasionally maneuver with mechanical means/assistance 165 lb kegs.
    •Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    •Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    •The ability to travel to various industry events via car or airplane is required.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    •Work is primarily performed in an office environment with frequent trips to operational areas required.
    •The work environment is that of a brewing and packaging facility.
    •The employee frequently must work in a sanitary environment.
    •The noise level in the packaging facilities is frequently loud (90+ dB).
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, steam and flame.
    •The employee regularly works with pressurized vessels.
    •The employee comes in contact with and has to handle broken glass.
    •The employee handles hazardous materials.
    •The employee works near moving mechanical parts.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
