  • Assistant Brewer - Chicago

    Begyle Brewing is looking for an assistant brewer to join our team in Chicago. We are a community supported brewing company located in the Ravenswood neighborhood currently producing 2000 bbl/year.

    The ideal candidate will be an energetic team player, highly motivated, detail oriented, and have one year of professional brewing experience. This is a full time hourly position; typical shifts are 8-10 hours during the day, Monday - Friday; occasional weekend hours representing Begyle at festivals are possible.

    Tasks expected include, but are not limited to:
    -Wort production on a two vessel, 10 bbl brewhouse
    -CIP/SIP of 10 and 20 bbl fermentation vessels and brite beer tanks
    -Transferring of wort and beer
    -Yeast handling
    -Packaging beer; including cleaning, sanitizing, and filling kegs, and bottling on Meheen bottle fillers
    -Maintaining inventory of packaged goods, raw materials, and packaging supplies
    -Maintaining brewing equipment in a clean and functional state
    -Maintaining a clean and orderly production space
    -Communicating clearly with all members of the brewing and front of house staff
    -Keeping thorough and consistent written records of all tasks completed

    Required qualifications:
    -Ability to follow SOPs and other documentation to produce a consistent, high quality product
    -Ability to work independently
    -Ability to think critically and react swiftly and appropriately to changing conditions
    -Ability to work safely with chemicals and other workplace hazards according to safety protocols
    -Ability to work well in a team and encourage positive morale
    -Ability to stand for long periods of time, crouch, kneel, and generally move about
    -Ability to lift 55lb, and team lift 160lb
    -Fork lift experience and certification (or willingness to obtain)

    Desired qualifications:
    -Mechanical background, ability to make small repairs and coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to fix and maintain equipment
    -Formal brewing education
    -Ability to withstand occasional exposure to coworkers’ questionable music preferences
