  • After Market Heater for MT. & Wort Grant Question.

My MT has no way to heat my mash once I strike in. Is there anything on the market that I can add so that I can raise my bed temp once I'm mashed in? Sometimes when I strike in, I can be off by 2-4F depending on grain temp, and my MT temp once I let super hot water sit in there and the jacket heats up.

How much will a wort grant increase my efficiency by? I'm currently getting 68%-83% depending on the gravity of the beer. Instead of adding rice hulls all the time, I think it might be more cost effective to get a wort grant. My wort flow has a tendency to come to a crawl with higher gravity beer, and sometimes can get stuck without any wheat.

    1. Preheat your mash tun with HLT water and dial in your mashing procedure before investing in a mash heater. Heating a mash/lauter tun is a losing endeavor.
    2. Definitely get a wort grant, we've done up to 40% wheat mashes with minimal rice hulls and no lautering issues.
