  • Using air compressor for wort aeration?

Is anyone out there doing this? If so, what sterile filters are you using and what flow rates are you seeing? Pros and cons?
    Thanks in advance.

I would highly recommend not doing this. Maybe you can keep the air you're blowing clean with enough filters, but bottled air or O2 is guaranteed to be clean - at least the stuff sold to brewers, which is either food grade or medical grade. Why risk your beer to save a few pennies, especially when you are still going to have the manpower to clean the thing every time, and pay for the filters?

Totally in agreement, just go with good cylinders.

        We do this.

Two sterile filters. One on the T-piece, that diverts the air from the main air compressor line to the wort aerator.
And one that's built into the wort aerator: http://foodandbeverage.pentair.com/~...s_brochure.pdf

Two is overkill. But we had one to spare and it was installed.

The reasons for me choosing compressed air instead of oxygen:

        1. Much more convenient than having to go fill up new cylinders and transporting them. No risk of serious damage of personel or property if something breaks.

        2. Cheaper.

        3. The risk of over-oxygenation is very low.

        4. Saves space. And time.
