  • Demand type valve for cask beer head space displacement with CO2

    Hey guys,

Setting up a few casks at the brewpub.

Housing them in an under bar fridge set at serving temp, looking to run CO2 in on top to displace the head space as beer is drawn off on the hand pump.

Any recommendations for a valve I can put inline that will work on a demand basis to supply the cask with gas as required, fed by a CO2 reg on a very low psi setting.

Idea is to not explode the casks. Bar staff wouldn't see the funny side I would.

    Cheers!
    Fraser

Have a search for 'cask breathers' and you will find what you need. theres a bit that goes in the place of the spile, and a valve that reulates flow

A properly sized regulator will do what you want without any extra parts. You should be able to source a reg that will maintain the CO2 at or near ambient pressure.

problem is that is still applying positive pressure, which would eventually overcarbonate a beer making the whole idea of doing a cask, pointless.

A cask breather is a demand valve, so it only adds CO2 when there is negative pressure on the cask end, because the head space is being emptied

Here's what you want to look for.

Cask aspirator valve (or cask breather) used in handling cask conditioned ales.
