    Position Title: Head Brewer
    Location: My Grain Brewing Company, Joliet, IL
    Job Type: Full-time position, year-round
    Reports to: Brewery Owners
    Compensation:
    • $45,000 - $55,000 (commensurate on experience level)
    • 2 weeks of paid time off (PTO)
    • Annual footwear allowance
    • $1,000 relocation allowance
    • $1,500 bonus after completing one year of*successful brewing

    Position Start Date: February 1, 2017
    My Grain Brewing Company is the first brewpub in Joliet, IL, located within the historical Joliet Union Station. We specialize in making a wide variety of classic beer styles, dessert beers, and offer thoughtful beer and food pairings. We are currently looking for a Head Brewer to work with our brewpub team.
    As the head brewer, you will be able to shape the design and future of our new 10-barrel ABE brewhouse. Coming in at the brewhouse installation stage, allows you to provide valuable input and make this the brewhouse a dream to run.

    Not only is My Grain Brewing Company full of exciting craft beer passion and potential, but if you are looking to live in the Chicagoland Area, the location is amazing. Joliet is located approximately 40 miles southwest of the heart of Chicago, where you can enjoy Lake Michigan’s immense lakefront, museums, nightlife, and all of the booming craft beer culture that Chicago has to offer, within an affordable town to live in.

    QUALIFIED APPLICANT MUST POSSESS THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
    Technical Qualifications:
    • 4+ years of brewing experience in a brewery, brewpub, or production brewery
    • Degree or Certificate in Brewing Science, Chemistry, Micro Biology, or Engineering is preferred
    • Cicerone Certification (Level 2) is a preferred
    • Proficient technical knowledge in all applicable aspects of the brewing and packaging process.
    • Source ingredients, develop recipes, be obsessive about sanitation and quality control
    • Develop SOPs to monitor and enforce high standards of quality and excellence
    • Packaging: experience working within packaging settings, on either a bottling or canning line (canning line experience preferred), ability to safely work in close quarters to packaging equipment and conveyors
    • Possess a strong mechanical understanding and background
    • Be fearless toward DIY maintenance in the brewery and restaurant, if necessary
    • Manage and train a staff of two or more assistant brewers
    • Forklift operation experience/certification

    Brewpub Qualifications
    • A comprehensive knowledge and passion for craft beer
    • Ability to design and brew a wide variety of styles, ranging from classic to experimental
    • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced brewpub and production environment
    • Flexibility, results-oriented mindset and a good attitude are essential
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, online and offline
    • Ability and willingness to educate staff in the brewing process, beer styles, and craft beer culture.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet development and tracking
    • Ability to accurately record inventory, understand and monitor cost control numbers
    • Must have the upmost attention to details and cleanliness in all areas of brewing
    • Must be adept at Federal and State Excise Tax recording and reporting
    • Ability to work independently
    • A friendly and public personality
    • Proficient in beer line cleaning, draft line balancing, and serving
    • Willingness to stay productive during slower work times
    • Ability to function in team environment (restaurant and brewery)
    • Ability to take direction from owners
    • Willingness to work full-time flexibly, including extended hours and weekends, as needed

    Physical Qualifications:
    • Ability to lift and move up to 55 pounds, climb ladders and ramps, crouch, and work in tight spaces
    • Willingness to be frequently exposed to wet conditions and work in extreme temperatures
    • Willingness and ability to work safely with industrial grade chemicals
    • Willingness to work safely in environments with variable noise levels

    Other requirements:
    • High school degree or GED required
    • Applicant must live within 30 minutes of the brewery OR be willing to relocate by February 1, 2017
    • 90-day probation time on the job
