POSITION: Brewer
REPORTS TO: Management Team
BREWERY: Empirical is one of Chicago’s newest and largest craft breweries - we began brewing in June 2014 on a 30-barrel system, added a bottling line in May 2015, and opened our taproom in October of 2015 supported by a custom-built 1-barrel system. We are now set to open a new brewpub with a supporting 5-barrel system and a neighboring bottle shop. We are currently distributing with nine Illinois distributors. As the name implies, we have a strong commitment to experimentation and portfolio refinement based on customer feedback.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Must have strong brewing knowledge with a minimum of five years professional brewing experience on a 5-barrel or greater system. Experience running a bottling line is preferred but not required, as is a brewing degree/certification. Experience with a Sprinkman system is a significant plus. Our brewers are expected to be able to operate all three of our brewing systems, so flexibility is a must.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and record keeping
Experience with analytical instruments
Strong communication and computer skills
Ability to be flexible with schedule and daily work
Creativity and a strong interest in experimentation
Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties
Experience managing and motivating a team, preferably in a brewing environment
