MoMac Brewing Company is a new brewery in planning, opening summer 2017. Our brewery is situated near the Elizabeth and James Rivers, of Southern Coastal Virginia. We are inspired by tradition and dedicated to making top quality craft beer.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an experienced Head Brewer to be part of this exciting opportunity and help us bring our vision to life. The right candidate will manage all aspects of brewery operations. We’re looking for someone with diverse experience within a brewery setting, a strong mechanical background and a thorough understanding of brewing science.
You’ll work in a well-equipped, brand new Alpha Brew Ops, 10 bbl brew house with a goal of 1000 bbls our first year. If you’re a hardworking, motivated individual with a positive attitude who wants to join a great team, we’d love to hear from you!

Portsmouth is a Coastal Virginia community offering access to the local beaches and water activities, as well as the beautiful Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains just a few hours’ drive. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who loves outdoor activities to include boating, fishing or the local beach scene.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Recipe formulation and development; Create, brew, and refine new and existing beer recipes.
• Ingredient selection and inspection; manage all raw material orders/shipments and inventories.
• Manage the brewing calendar to ensure scheduling and production fulfills the company’s requirements.
• Implement strategies for process improvement and workflow efficiency.
• Assist in hiring, managing and training the brewery team. Ensure proper use of all cleaning/sanitizing chemicals/agents and adherence to all prescribed safety protocols.
• Maintain the highest standards of quality and consistency.
• Serve as a resource for equipment maintenance.
Qualifications:
• At least 2 years of experience as a lead brewer.
• Brewing degree ideal; however, someone with a proven track record and well-documented background in brewing operations will also be considered for this opportunity
• Experience with a 10 bbl system or greater
• Strong mechanical background; Strong cleaning/sanitizing background; Lab skills and Micro understanding; Yeast handling proficiency
• Ability to work at a very fast pace yet be precise in daily tasks; excellent time management, prioritization, and delegating skills
• Organized, detail-oriented, and attentive to quality and standards
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work in confined spaces, with a clear demonstration of safe work practices.
• Ability to lift 55 pounds and move up to 165 pounds safely.
• Ability to bend, kneel and climb stairs frequently.
• Ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently exposed to wet conditions, exposure and handling of caustic chemicals.
