About the Kensington Brewing Company
The Kensington Brewing Company was born in the back of a restaurant in Toronto’s historic Kensington Market neighbourhood. Inspired by the flavour of our home, we brew beers designed to be enjoyed with food.
We are nearing completion of a brand new production brewery, bar and retail store at 299 Augusta Avenue. We are looking to hire a few key positions to help transition from a contract-only to a full brick-and-mortar craft brewery.
Job Description:
The Production/Cellar assistant is a critical support role at our brewery. The successful candidate will work closely with our Head Brewer to ensure the smooth, safe, and clean operation of the brewery at all times.
This position is perfect for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual looking to gain experience at a small production facility. We operate a 15hl brewhouse with 3500hl of annual capacity used to supply our on-site bar and retail store. Our Production/Cellar Assistant will learn to master our 6-head Meheen filler, manage our cellar and cold room, small Sabco pilot system, and eventually train on our brewhouse.
Reports to: Head Brewer
Direct reports: none
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with packaging beer while maintaining an extreme commitment to quality
Able to lead set-up/clean-up, and troubleshooting of bottling line
Tank CIP and product transfers. Duties will grow to encompass brewing
Routine upkeep of the brewery and cellar areas
Maintain exceptionally clean facility at all times
Keg cleaning, filling, and breakdowns.
Monitoring fermentation and keeping detailed records
Assist Head Brewer with day-to-day tasks
Assist Operations lead in managing on-site cold storage, inventory
Shipping/receiving, transporting inventory between brewery and warehouse
Setup, tear-down and serving at beer festivals and sampling events as needed.
General labour including: cleaning, delivery, packaging.
Technical Competencies and Requirements:
1+ year experience in production brewery or brewpub
Formal training not mandatory but will be given priority
Strong communication a must
Detail oriented, team player with high personal standards
Ability to work in adverse conditions (long hours standing, early morning and late evenings, hot and humid conditions) while maintaining productivity and focus
Mechanically inclined with ability to troubleshoot issues around the brewery
Full G license with clean record, ability to drive large van and up to 22” fixed truck.
Ability to life 55lb shoulder height, occasionally moving up to 160lb using a dolly or hand truck.
Hours: Full time. Sporadic hours including early mornings, some evenings and weekends.
