    POSITION SUMMARY

    Our craft brewery in NW Portland, Oregon is hiring a Line Operator who can work Monday through Friday from 11am until 7:30pm. The Line Operator completes all tasks involved in the packaging of products on the packaging line (machine operation, inspection, maintenance and packing). You will participate in operating the bottling line at our facility all according to safety standards to accomplish Pyramid, Portland Brewing and North American Breweries' goals and objectives.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Follow standard work methods and practice safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.
    • Safely and efficiently operate packaging equipment to ensure a consistent and high quality finished product. We currently use the following equipment:

    o Depalletizer
    o Pallet Jack
    o Forklift
    o Drop Packer
    o Palletizer
    o Topsealer
    o Foamer
    o Case and 6 pack Erector
    o Pressure Washer
    o 40 Head Fillers/Crowners

    • Troubleshoot machinery during operation; Make necessary adjustments to misadjusted equipment and report major malfunctions to the immediate supervisor
    • Manage quality control of all machine applications
    • Maintain quality control of product leaving designated machine
    • Wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment)
    • Verify daily packaging schedule prior to start-up
    • Complete operator reports including tracking production schedule
    • Clean machines at the end of packaging run
    • Openly communicate ideas and suggestions for improvements
    • Take action to prevent scrap; identify to supervisor recurring scrap issues
    • Drive forklift in safe and efficient manner; Supply packaging line and keg line with materials
    • Rotate all stock (first in - first out); Process paperwork for all transactions (e.g. bill of lading, pick lists, etc.)
    • Maintain warehouse cleanliness and organization
    • Perform other related duties and assignments as required and assigned

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Working within the exciting and dynamic industry of craft brewing can be extremely rewarding but not necessarily glamorous! This position can be very physical in nature and therefore requires the following:
    • working around moving machinery
    • frequently lifting up to 85 lbs -- up to 50 lbs shoulder high; occasionally lifting 170 lbs
    • comfort working at heights while standing on ladders
    • frequent ducking under conveyors/equipment; working in tight/cramped spaces and/or in awkward positions for extended periods of time
    • standing for long periods of time
    • routine pushing, pulling, reaching, upper body and arm rotation, bending and stooping

    The work environment includes working on and around potentially dangerous equipment/machinery, handling and transporting hazardous materials (chemicals, solvents and cleaners), wet/slippery floors, broken glass.

    ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ability to safely and efficiently work in the environment described above and wears all PPE.
    • Must be available to work a flexible schedule between the hours of 11 a.m. -- 7:30pm Monday through Friday or as business needs dictate (including occasional weekends and holidays).
    • Must be reliable and have steady work history with a good attendance record
    • Mechanical aptitude and ability to reach productivity standards with each function in all line positions/equipment
    • Must have great attention to detail and ability to see details at close range
    • Flexible to changing priorities in a high stress, deadline driven production environment
    • Ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong - it does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem
    • Contentious team player who is able to work independently with minimal direct supervision
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize, make and execute correct decisions when necessary or call for help when appropriate in order to complete warehouse tasks in a timely manner during shift, and see jobs to their completion

    PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
    • Quality of work: attention to detail, conscientious, aware of changes to schedule, lack of mistakes, miscommunication and oversights.
    • Quantity of work: reach productivity standards with each function.
    • Judgement: ability to make and execute correct decisions when necessary or call for help when appropriate.
    • Teamwork: effective in working with others, both within and outside the production department. Treat coworkers in a respectable and courteous manner. Prioritizing during late work hours without management direction.
    • Reliability and attendance: show up to work on time ready to work.

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
    • One year increasing responsibilities in related technical/mechanical position in a production environment
    • HS Diploma or HS Equivalence Certificate. Preferred Education: Technical and/or mechanical courses or related experience.
    • Proficiency with basic math and ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
    • Forklift Certification and ability to safely operate a forklift a plus

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Able to lift heavy materials (minimum 170 lb.).
    • Able to climb ladders. Ladder climbing over 20 feet. Able to perform job while standing on a ladder.
    • Able to work in wet, tight or cramped spaces.
    • Work in a variety of weather conditions.
    • Ability to work on/around potentially dangerous equipment/machinery with moving mechanical parts.
    • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Ability to operate various power tools.
    • Able to work in an environment with high noise levels.
    • Able to work with hazardous chemicals.
    • Able to frequently duck under conveyors/equipment.
    • Able to climb stairs.
    • Able to work in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
    • Able to frequently grasp with one or both hands.
    • Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (respirators, ear plugs, boots, etc).

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    • Exposure to very high noise levels in/around bottling line (ear protection required).
    • Handling of hazardous materials.
    • Exposure to hot fluids.
    • Exposure to live steam.
    • Exposure to pressurized vessels and transfer lines.
    • Exposure to particulate atmospheres (respirator required).
    • Exposure to extremely variable temperature levels.
    • Wet, slippery floors.
    • Wet clothing.
    • Exposure to carbon dioxide.
    • Performing job with and around moving machinery.
    • Exposure to high volumes of broken glass.
