  • Head Brewer for a new Dallas Alehouse

    White Rock Alehouse & Brewery is a new brewpub in the Dallas area that will be a full service restaurant and bar with a small brewing space on site. A small level of production will come from this location in phase one of the project, with future goals of expanding production to a larger secondary space. It is anticipated that most all of the produced beer at the Alehouse will be sold and consumed on site.

    This is a full time, salaried position. Responsible for all areas of beer production and operations of the brewery portion of the Alehouse, the Head Brewer will be a senior role in the business. This person should be experienced with the brewing process on professional level brewing systems. They would have a creative mind for the beers that are produced but must work towards developing successful, customer-friendly beers.

    Job responsibilities include:
    • Being the primary contact for the brewery to help promote the processes and products coming out of the brewery.
    • On a two-vessel electric system, formulate and create beer that the public will enjoy and that will improve the recognition of the Alehouse and its offerings. This includes regular, year round beers as well as seasonal and rare offerings to attract the customer.
    • Select the raw materials used for various brews, monitor brew conditions, maintain records for quality control and consistency, and management of the day to day operations of the brewery.
    • Maximize production and efficiency out of the brewing space with a focus on minimizing beer costs as is reasonable.
    • Through the beer produced and regular customer interaction, the Head Brewer will help to build our customer base through personal tours, brewer dinners and other customer focused events.
    • Maintain the brewery and all equipment in a clean and safe manner so that the Alehouse complies with all laws related to health, safety and meets OSHA standards.
    • Help in the hiring and training of needed support staff and volunteers.
    • Regularly report to ownership on capital and operating expenditures needed to maximize production levels.
    • Work with ownership on limited self-distribution opportunities in the region as needed for certain beer styles.
    • Maintain all levels of reporting, inventory control and budgeting. This includes maintaining excellent records and reporting for TTB and TABC requirements.

    The work conditions for this position are essentially a manufacturing space, with plenty of noise, water, odors, heavy lifting, hot and cold liquids, chemicals, CO2, and in a tight space with varying temperatures.

    The requirements for this position is ideally a combination of education and experience in professional brewing. Two or more years of experience is required. Formal education in brewing is highly desired. A sound understanding of brewing science is required. Experience running and managing a professional brewing system is mandatory.

    Other preferred skills include an outgoing personality, positive attitude, good communication, computer literacy, some mechanical skills and strong project and time management.

    Lastly, the chosen candidate must love beer!
