Center of the Universe Brewing Company (COTU), a production brewery located in Ashland, VA (Metro Richmond Area), is seeking a full-time brewer to add to our team to brew/cellar at our research and development center, Origin Beer Lab. We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled brewer to continue our 4+ years of crafting exceptional and consistent beer in central Virginia. Current year production is 6,500bbls on a 15bbl main system and 3bbl pilot system. In addition to being an all around awesome person, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
• 1+ years working as a COMMERCIAL brewer at a production facility
• Commitment to quality and consistency
• Ability and willingness to diligently follow recipes and procedures
• Attention to detail and documentation
• Desire and ability to make Center of the Universe Brewing Company the Center of Your Universe – long days and nights, brewing, packaging, cleaning, sanitizing, organizing, tinkering, inventing…
• Ability to lift 55lbs and move 160lbs when necessary
• Excellent sensory analysis
• Have at least as much passion for producing great beer as we do
Duties:
• Operating and maintaining a 3bbl Electric brewhouse
• Cellar duties from CIP to fermentation monitoring
• Cleaning and sanitation of the brewhouse and cellar
• Work with partner(s) to perfect recipes and processes
• Basic maintenance and repairs
• Quality Control
• Produce amazing beer
*Brewer will spend most their time at the lab creating/brewing recipes, experimenting and expanding the sour program, collaborating with other breweries and partners, and pushing the limits of creativity and ingenuity. This facility is located 5 miles from the main production facility and features a 3bbl fully electric brewhouse with 6 3bbl unitanks and 1 3bbl brite tank.
