Braumeister Brewing Co., located in downtown Carleton Place, Ont just outside Ottawa, Ont is looking for the right candidate to join our team in the Head Brewer/Production Manager Position.
We are a startup production brewery that is building a taproom, Bavarian beer hall, production facility and brewhouse in the winter of 2017. We are looking for a Head Brewer/Master Brewer to help us launch and grow our business. Carleton Place is a beautiful, growing city with a heritage and small town community feel. It is a great place to live and work and is only 30 minutes outside Ottawa! Our brewery will focus on traditional German/European style ales and lagers. We have a brand new 10bbl brew system and the initial focus is on local sales in our taproom and Bavarian beer hall/garden, as well as distributing to local bars and restaurants. Applicants must possess:
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a production brewery setting is preferred but not mandatory
- Education from an accredited brewing school(s) and/or other beer-related education
- Great passion and enthusiasm for craft beer, brewing, creating recipes, and researching and applying new techniques
- Strong leadership, organization, and time-management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong sense of responsibility both inside and outside the brewery
- Ability to work and communicate well with others in both the production and administrative sides of the brewery
- Extensive knowledge and experience with most if not all European beer styles
- Strong vision and desire to produce award-winning beer
- Ability to design traditional beer recipes that will excite customers
- Strong mechanical background- ability to troubleshoot/repair mechanical issues in brewery setting
- Ability and willingness to adopt new processes/practices and/or beer-styles
- Ability to source and maintain raw materials inventories and contracts
- Ability to source and maintain packaging inventories and cooperage
- A strong focus on cleanliness, safety and organization of equipment, lab, and facility
- Ability to utilize and manage brewery production software
- Experience working in a brewery lab (yeast propagation, etc.)
- Experience working with, at a minimum, 10bbl brewhouse or larger
- Willingness to work in a fast pace environment, yet be precise in daily tasks
Other Criteria:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift 55+ pounds
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Maintain flexible hours
- Ability to attend and work outside events and tasting room operations
- Ability to speak in front of groups or tours
- Ability to work independently and in a team with minimal direct supervision
- Fork lift certification is a plus
- Self Starter and motivated to learn more about the industry
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead and assist in the brewing process, packaging line and cellar
- Ensure efficient operation of equipment and facility
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of equipment and facility
- Assist in setting up and making running adjustments to packaging equipment
- Assist production staff in performing their duties through direction and assistance
- Lead, teach, and inspire staff to always be improving processes
- Safely use a wide variety of power and hand tools
- Ensure the equipment is setup, maintained, and operated to allow for efficient and safe production and packaging of quality product
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area, returning tools, equipment and supplies to their appropriate storage areas after each assignment
- Willingness and ability to perform any other ancillary jobs/roles within the brewery
