Granite Falls Brewing Company (“GFB”), established 2013, is a mid-level production AND artisanal Craft Brewery operating on a 115-year-old site along the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Western North Carolina. We’re located in the dry county of Caldwell, the wet town of Granite Falls (population 4,700), next-door to Hickory, just down-mountain from Blowing Rock and AppState, and less than an hour drive from Asheville, Boone, Charlotte, and Winston-Salem.
GFB has an immediate opening for a Head Brewer. Our brewery enjoys a hybrid distribution footprint across 68 NC and 18 SC counties: we self-distribute to Charlotte, Asheville, the Triad, and Raleigh-Durham, while tapping the MillerCoors wholesaler network across Hickory and Fayetteville areawide. GFB specializes in approachable American ales, but is becoming widely known for its sour ales. Within our 32,000sf warehouse, attached to our multiple award-winning 220-seat restaurant, awaits a Marks Design & Metalworks 20BBL+ mash tun, five 40BBL fermenters, a 20BBL fermenter, and a Psycho Brew 2.5BBL pilot/small-batch system. We have a barrel-aging inventory, and all equipment – including a semi-automated keg rinsing, sanitizing & filling station, and large drive-in cooler – was purchased new.
So we’re seeking a funky!, semi-workaholic, dedicated, disciplined mad scientist to join our GFBeerhead Family—36 coworkers and a turnkey system await you. A Facebook Community of 19,000+ awaits you, but modesty is the virtue we seek.
Workplace Expectations:
- Some weekend and after-hours work is expected. The Head Brewer will coordinate with and assist the owner in giving tours, checking equipment during inclement weather, and is wholly responsible for maintaining a tidy, sanitary brewspace.
- It’s not a desk job: our Head Brewer is expected to be active in the market accompanying GFB’s sales reps and third-party distributors on ride-withs, performing shelf life and product placement checks areawide, and generally “representing” and bolstering goodwill by being a visible presence in the market on off-production days. **She/he will wear a SALES hat and a PRODUCTION hat as required, coordinating and co-supervising three full-time sales reps and a professional full-time delivery driver.**
- Be an Ambassador of Goodwill to other breweries/distilleries/vineyards: our Head Brewer will network, engaging in diplomacy with NC’s craft brewery and homebrewing communities, and keeping abreast of industry happenings and the changing federal and state regulatory climate.
- A self-motivated innovator: our Head Brewer will seek out opportunities daily for cost cutting, madcap creating (one offs/experimental brews), and be self-driven to optimize GFB’s brand via social media and offsite networking. Leadership is a must.
- Taproom Stewardship: our Head Brewer will work alongside tasting room coworkers to maintain our 24 taps and lines.
- Other Duties as Expected of a professional salaried brewer.
