  • Head brewer position in St. Michaels MD (Eastern Shore)

Head brewer position available on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Maryland.

The Head Brewer position is a fabulous opportunity for an individual who has the desire to build their artesian skillset, and work in a fun laid back environment. In addition, the individual would be working alongside super cool people, and have the ability to develop their craft whilst being great at what they are good at! (Who ever used the term whilst in a job description? It sounds way too formal for our place, but let’s just go with it!) Moving on….
If this position entices you, I highly recommend reading the job description below, and applying as soon as possible! This position will not be around long, especially since we are such cool, hip and happening folks! Kidding!!! Actually, I am not kidding! We are looking for another cool, hip and happening individual who loves to drink great beer and wants to join our team!

Established in 2008, the production facility is a 12hl brew-house with 15bbl fermenters and bright tanks. The brewery distributes four core brands annually, and produces over 10 rotating beers throughout the year.
The tasting room boasts a unique vibe, great crowds and a fun atmosphere! The tasting room is also known as a hotspot, especially during the tourist season, and has become a favorite hangout for our local community.

    Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will have a management mindset, and will be responsible for all aspects of the brewing process; from grain to glass, so to speak.
The Head Brewer’s position includes (but is not limited to) the following:
The individual should be a master of his/her artesian craft, and be able to handle all aspects of the brewing operation, i.e. mashing, lautering, CIP/sanitation, yeast management, tank management, raw materials management, scheduling, packaging, kegging and canning during mobile canning operation, inventory management, equipment maintenance, forklift operation, draft line maintenance, recipe formulation and record keeping.
Other duties will include attendance at festivals within the state of Maryland, conducting brewery house tours, staff training and education and being a continuous community ambassador for the company brand. In addition to these requests, you must continually be your coolest, hip and happening self wherever you go!

    Key Skills and Qualifications:
    • A minimum of two years-experience as a professional brewer in a brewpub or in a commercial brewery setting.
    • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
    • Must be a self-starter and an independent forward thinker.
    • Must be a mature individual with a confident personality.
    • Must be adaptable to an ever-changing environment, and be able to handle fluctuating circumstances and priorities.
    • Must have a desire to grow professionally, and have a drive to stay up on current trends and topics.
    • Must have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently, while playing nice in the sandbox.
    • Must have a strong knowledge of beer styles
    • Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work overtime during the peak season, including nights and weekend (on occasion).
    • Must be able to work in a loud, wet, cold and/or hot production environment.
    • Must be able to direct and motivate others.
    • Must have mechanical aptitude with a problem solving/trouble shooting nature.
    • Must be able to lift 55# overhead.

Still interested? The biggest thing you should be thinking about before applying is ….. I can do all of the required tasks really well, but am I cool enough…? If that answer is yes, then do it do it do it!
