  • Part-Time Assistant Brewer/Cellarman in Central CT

    We are looking for someone who lives the craft beer life; someone who has a passion for craft beer, the craft beer industry, and craft beer culture. We all believe in what we do and that’s why we do it – we want the same from you.

    In the role of Assistant Brewer, you need to be able to hit the ground running and assist our brewers with all aspects and processes related to brewing, cellaring, record keeping, and any other procedure required to create amazing craft beer and run a brewery. The right candidate will be hard-working, self-motivated, and can work responsibly in a potentially hazardous industrial environment.

    This position requires the candidate to take direction from our Head Brewer, work independently but enjoy team camaraderie, be a self-starter who can find work to do when idle, commit to learning and perfect cellaring and brewing techniques, and think and act logically. This will be a part-time, hourly position (3 days per week) with no benefits (except free beer) with the potential for it to become full-time in the future. We are located in Central, CT.

    CORE DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
    - Maintain sanitary practices in all aspects of the production process
    - Mill grain
    - Clean brewery, tap room, and storage area
    - Fermentation/cellaring/transfer of wort and beer
    - Carbonation/finishing of beer
    - CIP of brewing and fermentation equipment, tanks, etc.
    - Conduct preventative maintenance on all equipment
    - Log recipes, processes, and critical notes from brew day
    - Fill kegs and manage cooperage
    - Clean draft lines
    - Product and ingredient inventory
    - Work safely and responsibly with CIP chemicals, around brewing equipment, etc.
    - Assist brewers and owners with any additional tasks or projects
    - Conducts themselves in a professional manner around guests at the brewery and during events


    REQUIREMENTS:
    - Previous experiences working in a production brewery or brew pub
    - Passion for brewing and making good beer
    - Passion for the advancement of the Kinsmen brand
    - Eager to learn and grow professionally
    - Familiarity with brewing and fermentation processes and equipment
    - Willing to work at events and assist in the tap room
    - Ability to work evenings and weekends when needed
    - Must be an open-minded, team player
    - Basic computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, social media
    - Must be able to multitask and switch between jobs on the fly
    - Must poses a decent memory for time-sensitive processes
    - Must be mechanically inclined

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    - Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and crawl
    - Heavy physical work including climbing ladders, pulling hoses, and lifting/carrying 55 lbs grain bags
    - Willing to work in many different environments to include, hot, cold, and wet conditions
    - Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals and wear proper PPE
    - Ability to work safely in the presence of elevated Carbon Dioxide
