    Shift Brewer

    Newport Craft Brewing and Distilling is looking to add to our brewery production team. This position is a dynamic role which requires an organized, self-motivated, and reliable individual who will work as a part of the brewery production team in a rapidly growing craft brewery.     The Shift Brewer primary role will be hands on working with Head Brewer in all brewery operations, including, but not limited to, brewing, cellar work, packaging product, production planning, general cleaning, operation and upkeep of equipment, all while maintaining quality control throughout all aspects of the brewing and cellar processes. Hired individuals will be expected to work a minimum of 40 hour week, including some evenings and weekend shifts as required. This position comes with competitive pay based on the candidate's qualifications and includes 401k and medical benefits for full-time hires. Detailed training for independent brewing and wort production will be integrated into this roll. The following work experience will be evaluated as part of the hiring criteria:

    Duties and responsibilities:
    • Participate in all areas of brewing, cellaring, packaging, and racking production
    • Operating the brewhouse in a safe and efficient manner with maximum attention to detail and accuracy. Including, but not limited to, milling, mashing, lautering, wort boiling, and transferring to fermenter
    • Transfer of beer to serving vessels including, but not limited to, brite tanks, kegs, bottles, and cans
    • Maintaining the use of standard operating procedures
    • Monitor supply of raw materials and other inventory items
    • Monitor water quality, gravities, temperatures, and carbonations
    • Yeast management (harvesting, pitching, counts/viabilities)
    • Tank management (gravity checks, trub dumps and dry-hopping)
    • CIP and sanitization on all vessels (fermenters, heat exchanger, filters, mash tun, kettle, and brite tanks)
    • Mash tun cleaning including removal of spent grain
    • Inventory management of raw materials & brewery supplies
    • Maintain production logs, inventory reports, packaging logs, etc.
    • Work and communicate well across all levels of a brewery operation
    • Maintain brewery equipment as well as general facility cleanliness
    • Stay current with developing beer styles and propose new beer recipes
    • Work closely with executive team and staff to maintain a current and comprehensive understanding of Newport Craft beer offerings, beer styles and new releases
    • Participate in providing leadership for the brewery staff through education and training.
    • Participate in creating and improving brewery standard operating procedures for all critical steps
    • Assist with TTB reporting and record keeping.
    • Participate in brewery promotions and beer education events as needed.

    Job Requirements:
    • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
    • Valid Driver’s License, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation to work
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends as required

    Qualifications:
    • 1-2 years of experience in a production brewery or brewpub
    • Strong work ethic and self-starting attitude
    • Good interpersonal skills and team spirit
    • Excellent organization with exceptional time management skills
    • Communicate effectively with strong written and verbal skills.

    • Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
    • Ability to comply with safe chemical handling procedures, including personal protection equipment such as gloves and goggles

    Education & Experience:
    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Professional experience in brewing operations. A minimum of 1-2 years as assistant brewer
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, mobile applications, and technology.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age

    Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements
    • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces.
    • Must be able to work in hot, cold, and wet environments
    • Must be able to climb stairs, use a ladder, work at heights above 10 ft., and lift up to 60 lbs.
    • Must be able to drive a vehicle
    • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods

    Compensation:
    • Job Type: Full-time
    • Salary: $30,000 to $35,000/year base upon experience
