    Terramar Brewing and Distilling in funky Edison, Washington is seeking a full-time head brewer for our startup operation. We are a destination brewstillery nestled between Seattle Washington and Vancouver BC with views of Puget sound, the San Juan Islands and Cascade Mountains. We have some of the best agricultural land in the world producing amazing grains, fruits and vegetables. Couple that with local maltsters and flour mill we will be able to produce hyper local craft beers, ciders, spirits, and pizza. We will let the seasonally available ingredients tell us what to make, so creativity is a must.
    We work in a collaborative environment and there will be opportunities to cross train between the brewery, distillery and wood fired pizza operations. Production on the 15bbl two vessel brewhouse will support both the brewery and distillery and be served through 2 tasting rooms. There will be many opportunities as we grow together in this new adventure.

    JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
    As the Head Brewer of Terramar Brewery, you will use your passion for beer and comprehensive knowledge of the brewing processes to craft creative recipes using local seasonally available ingredients and produce the best, most exciting beers possible. Whether you’re putting a fresh spin on existing recipes or crafting the perfect seasonal or specialty brew, you understand that quality comes first. Spontaneous, and mixed culture fermentation along with barrel aging must be part of your repertoire. You will be involved with every step of the fermentation process from the creation of the recipe, production, cellaring, packaging, QC, documentation, marketing and sales of the final product.


    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS: (Performed with or without reasonable accommodation)

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    • Proficient in all areas of brewing / cellaring / packaging / racking production.
    • Complete brewing process in a safe and efficient manner. This includes, but is not limited to; milling, mashing, and lautering, wort boiling and transferring to fermenter.
    • Maintain, monitor and evaluate up to three yeast strains
    • Manage maintenance schedule
    • Maintain safety and health standards
    • Monitor, and maintain supply of raw materials and other inventory items.
    • Monitor process gravities, temperatures, and carbonations and maintain documentation
    • Stay current with developing beer styles around and help build formulations based on these styles.
    • Create and improve brewery standard operating procedures (SOPs) for every critical step.
    • Perform quality control lab analysis, document results, and update SOP’s based on results
    • Propose new styles of beers with unique brewing processes and ingredients. Practice “no fear” brewing.
    • Work closely with other Terramar departments and staff to maintain a current and comprehensive understanding of the Terramar beer offerings, brewery history, beer styles, new releases and culture
    • Provide leadership for the brewery staff through education, and training.
    • Build and maintain solid relationships with all vendors. Maintain a minimum of two vendors for all critical ingredients. Regularly monitor and compare vendor costs for raw materials, and brewing supplies.

    • Assist with TTB and WLCB reporting and record keeping

    • Participate in Terramar promotions, tours and beer events as needed.
    • Perform regular maintenance on equipment.
    • Be comfortable working with chemicals of varying composition and always maintain adherence to safety standards during routine cleaning of brewing equipment.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Four-year College degree, preferably in Brewing/Fermentation science or Food Science
    • Experience in brewing operations or food manufacturing is a plus
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, mobile applications and technology

    JOB REQUIREMENTS
    • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
    • Valid driver’s license in the State of Washington, proof of insurance and a clean driving record
    • Tobacco and Drug Free
    • Reliable transportation for work
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening, weekends, and holidays

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements frequently
    • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis
    • While primarily an indoor job, must be able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, snow, heat)
    • Must be able to work in hot, cold, and wet environments
    • Must be able to climb stairs both inside and outside and frequently lift 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 60 lbs.
    • Must be able to drive vehicles with either a manual and / or automatic transmission
    • Must be able to use a ladder, i.e., work at heights of 10+’ above grade
    • Must be able to safely operate forklift
