  • 7 or 10 bbl system weights

I'm looking to open a small micro and have found a great location but am not sure if the structure of the building will be able to support the system we have in mind. We are toying around with either a 7 or 10 bbl system. Does anyone have any idea as to what these would weigh during the brewing process? Also, any idea as to how much the fermenters/serving tanks would weigh when full? Any help would be much appreciated.

You never said math would be on the test!

Water weighs ~8LBS per gallon depending on temperature. Wort is even heavier depending on the specific gravity (density). So just multiply the number of gallons you aticipate to have on hand at any one time and that is the weight of water, add the weight of all the fermenters, kettle, pumps, and so on. So for example 10bbl or 310 gallons of water alone (31gallons/bbl) weighs ~2480LBS. You get the idea? Hope this helps.
