  • White Labs "Pitchable Sizes" by Bbl. Yeast?

just wondering if anyone has ordered yeast in pitchable sizes per barrell batch from white labs?
what type of container does it come in?
cost? is it worth it after you factor in labor, ingredients, human error of making your own starter?

don't get much info off their website.

    thanks.

I think its worth it for us. We are small 7 BBL brewpub and i get the 7 BBL pitchables about every few months. I think its somewhere around 210$ but I also reuse my yeast up to 8 generations, so dont think your going to have to purchase a new pitchable each time. It comes in a 1/2 gallon nalgene bottle.

That last post says it all. We have a 7bbl system, and I use the 7bbl white labs all the time. The beers is usually fermenting in 24 hours, and I get great results. Reuse the yeast for multiple generations and it will offset your cost.

I have been using White Labs pitchable size yeast for years now. they ship next day and it comes in a handy reusable nalgeen bottles. (Usually 1 or 2 liter ones)

At my previous job I had a 10BBL Liquid Assets system and pitched 1500ml that was next day shipped from San Diego to Martha's Vineyard, MA. Never once did I have a problem. I used many varieties over the years and was always satisfied with the yeast and order lead times.

At our new place, we plan on starting with 20BBL (3liter) pitch until I can hire some brewers to help with yeast prop and lad work.

        Best of luck
        Matthew

Wyeast is another option to consider. My 20 bbl pitches from them are a bit more expensive because they send more yeast per bbl than White Labs, but I think the better performance is worth it.
