  • gap in v-wire screen

    hello,

i am buying a used 20 bbl mash tun and having a new 4-piece removable v-wire screen fabricated for the vessel. the fabricator asked what gap i wanted for the v-wire screen. before i tell him the same gap that i have on my current mash tun, i wanted to see if anyone on this forum had some thoughts on the matter.

    cheers,

    sam

      0.7 to .12 mm wide

According to Kunze: Technology Brewing & Malting, the slit is about 0.7 to 1.2 mm (0.02756" to 0.04724") wide, and widen out below to 3 to 4 mm.

It is about 30 to 40 mm long, and the free passage is up to 10% of the total surface area.
      Cheers!

Depends on what sort of mash you are planning on running in the new system - aka floating vs submersed mash.
