Since a lot of us are likely to need to store hops for longer periods of time given the current market, would anyone care to share some guidelines for storage? What maintains pellets or flowers in their peak condition for the longest time? Is there a difference between the best practice for pellet or flower? The hop storage index (HSI) is measured at 20 °C. How much does it change at lower temperatures? Where is the point of diminishing returns as far as lowering the temperature goes?

I use 5 and 6 gallon buckets with the Gamma Seal lid. These lids will are airtight and will turn any bucket into a airtight bucket. I flush the bucket with CO2 then store the hops in our kitchen freezer at -15 degrees. According to the Hop Storage Index, I will lose less than .5% alpha acids a year this way.Scott Isham
