Head Brewer - Newfoundland

Reporting to the Operation’s Manager, the Head Brewer will be responsible for producing wort to the quality standards and specifications of the company as well as leading, scheduling and training the brewing team. This includes all supplementary tasks to brewing, cleaning vessels, handling yeast and general brewery labour. This is a salaried, management position where the employee is expected to do brewing shift work and uphold management duties.

Some of the expectations of this role include:

• Milling grain through a mill, requiring the ability to lift 25 kg to shoulder height.
• Operation of the brewhouse i.e., wort production of our core brands. The brewhouse is a 20 BBL, 4 vessel (MM, LT, BK, WP) kit and our brews are completed in shifts. There is also a 10 BBL experimental brewery that will be used until the production brewery is operational.
• Managing hot and cold liquor availability
• Brewhouse and fermentation vessel CIP, and a thorough understanding of the chemicals used
• Superficial cleaning in the cellar
• Product transfers
• Communication with farmers or waste removal services for spent grain removal
• Preparation and pitching of yeast
• General cleaning
• Product development
• Scheduling
• Training
• Routine maintenance and maintenance scheduling
• Proficient use of brewery management software
• Procurement of applicable ingredients and consumables

A successful candidate will need to have the following skills and experience:

• Bachelor of Science or Engineering, or any applicable brewing education, certification, or training
• 5+ years in the brewing industry working as a brewer
