Job Opportunity: Assistant Brewer.
Join a landmark brewery in the heart of St. John’s, Newfoundland. We take pride in producing some of the finest, most balanced and drinkable beers in North America on the easternmost coast of Canada. We have recently expanded and have the need for another brewer to join our team. We are also working on the next expansion too, so don’t be shy about sending us a resume.
Brewers have the opportunity to rotate through all facets of day-to-day operation, from the receipt and processing of raw materials to the processing and delivery of the final product. The scope of job duties includes but is not limited to brewing, cellar work, filtration, kegging, bottling, CIP and cleaning. Work is determined by the brewmaster.
An ideal candidate would have:
A positive mindset, able to work within a team AND independently with a get ‘er done attitude
A true passion for quality and commitment to hard work
STRONG communication skills, accurate logging and reporting
Ability to work on your feet all day
Ability to go up and down stairs repeatedly
Strict attention to detail
Flexibility in scheduling
Comfortable, confident ability to comply with SOPs & safety protocols
Physical capability of lifting 60 pounds and/or moving 165 pounds repeatedly
Ability to function well in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment that is often under time stress.
Ability to work at heights while standing on ladders, working in tight/cramped spaces
and/or in awkward positions for extended periods of time. The work environment also
includes working on and around potentially dangerous equipment/machinery, handling
hazardous materials, exposure to high noise levels, working with compressed gases (air, CO2, N2) and often moving from very warm to very cold environments.
Strong mechanical background preferred.
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus
Sense of humor and appreciation of fine beer is fundamentally essential. Candidates who do not like beer, or otherwise have an aversion to alcohol need not apply. Position is not suitable for those with gluten, hop or mold allergies.
Formal brewing education and experience or a technical education in food science or food preparation preferred. Likewise a drivers license.
YellowBelly Brewery and Public House is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Pre-employment background check and certificate of conduct from the RNC (Royal Newfoundland Constabulary) will be required. Candidates should also be qualified to work in Canada.
