    Catawba Brewing Company is currently seeking a candidate for Shift Brewer at our Charlotte Facility at 933 Louise Avenue. Candidate should have experience brewing in a small batch (system is a 10 bbl system) environment. This candidate will perform all brewhouse duties from brewing to cellaring to packaging. Candidates must have a strong desire to learn and demonstrate a mechanical aptitude; prior brewery experience is required. Our staff must be enthusiastic team players and consummate beer professionals. They must effectively represent the mission and personality of CBC to our company’s staff and clientele.
    Company Description:
    The Catawba Valley Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery, founded in 1999, in the Western North Carolina mountains. It includes the Catawba Brewing, Palmetto Brewing and Twisp brands.     Our main production facility and first tasting room are located in beautiful downtown Morganton, NC. A second major production facility and Palmetto tasting room is located on historic Huger Street in Charleston, SC. A Catawba small batch brewery, tasting room and private event space, in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood neighborhood. We operate a pilot brewery, tasting room, and private event space in the Asheville South Slope; along with a second Asheville tasting room in Biltmore Village.
    Shift Brewer Role:
    ยท Basics:
    • Execute brewing, cellaring and packaging schedule according to plan as needed with Safety as a primary guide
    • Maintain flexible schedule, normal schedule is weekday operations during daytime
    • Monitor, record, and evaluate brewhouse and cellar efficiency and performance. Identify and suggest improvements for all brewhouse processes including daily monitoring of brewhouse extract efficiencies and remediation of actual or potential quality
    • Learn and follow all Catawba Valley Brewing Company Standard Operating Procedures within first month of employment
    • Assist Quality Manager and Head Brewer in completing brewhouse and cellar labs testing including but not limited to: yeast count/viability, wort stability, brewing water chlorine and Ph, wort O2 levels
    • Complete and keep certifications and trainings including Safety and Chemical Safety, Fork Lift, Confined Space Entry, Lock Out/Tag Out, and Emergency Evacuation within first two months of employment
    • Perform all cellar duties including safely cleaning any tank/vessel, transfer of product, carbonation, dry hopping or applying any fruit additions to product in fermentation vessels.
    • Brewhouse cleaning, including CIP of all brewhouse items
    • Washing kegs
    • Kegging beer
    • Assist with single can labeler and 2-head can filler or supervise others who are operating

    Reporting:
    • Under direction of head brewer, ensure all brewhouse activities are properly recorded in brewhouse software (EKOS)
    • Ensure all brewing documentation including TTB spreadsheets, brew sheets, packaging logs are accurately and properly prepared, suitable for regulatory requirements, and submitted in a timely manner including entering data into ERP software (EKOS)
    • Monitor and update brewhouse software daily to ensure data being entered on the brewhouse side is updated in a timely manner and correct. Work with brewhouse teams to remediate and re-train if needed

    Outreach / Brand Ambassador:
    • Professionally and enthusiastically lead brewery tours
    • Educate other brewery employees in beer and the brewing process
    • Coordinate with brewing and marketing teams to suggest new products, new ingredients, new processes

    Facilities Maintenance:
    • Diagnose equipment failures or malfunction, and repair when possible
    • Ensure all brewhouse facilities are clean and clutter free
    • Work with facilities team to plan for new equipment – including updating SOPs, staffing to install and learn to operate, and ensuring safety protocols are all met
    Other:
    • Must be able to lift 55 lbs (i.e. grain bags,etc.) and operate a grain mill
    • Requires ability to move (roll) 165 lb kegs on a regular basis
    • Adhere to all required OSHA regulations and CVBC safety regulations that go above and beyond OSHA.
