    HEAD BREWER

    Position: Urban Growler Brewing Company is looking for an experienced Head Brewer to join our team.

    Location: St. Paul, MN.

    Who We Are: Located in St. Paul, Urban Growler is the first woman owned microbrewery in Minnesota. Our beer is handcrafted in 10-barrel batches in our 4-vessel steam brewhouse. We make traditional beers like CowBell Cream Ale, and non-traditional beers with a local twist through our Plow to Pint® Series and specialties. We sell beer in our taproom and self-distribute kegs and cans. Our current production is 2000 bbls per year and we growing organically to 5000 bbl. We aim to make craft beer more approachable to everyone.

    Who we’re looking For: We are looking for a Head Brewer that is not only a positive leader but also a team player to work in all aspects of the brewery while at the same time managing the brewers, assistant brewers and daily operations. The Head Brewer will work closely with the Brewing, Sales and Management teams. We are a small brewery with a proven track record on the way up. If you want to join us on the adventure, read on.

    What you should have:
    • At least 3 years professional brewing experience required
    • Strong management skills -You are able to manage brewers and assistant brewers.
    • Previous experience with filtering and canning operations desired
    • Production planning experience desired – planning brews and supplies to meet sales and taproom needs
    • Ability to create delicious, approachable, award winning beers from existing recipes or your own.
    • Brewery skills - You can safely work in and are able to manage all areas of the brewery from wort production and cellar work to packaging, yeast management and quality assurance.
    • Strong technical brewing knowledge, with formal brewing education preferred
    • Fix-it skills - You can fix almost anything; you track and perform or schedule preventative maintenance
    • Engaging personality with great communication, management and teamwork skills
    • Good understanding of quality assurance and control.
    • Problem solving skills and ability to troubleshoot beer and equipment related issues.
    • Personal attributes – honest and hard-working with a passion for beer and quality.
    • Desire and ability to take ownership of the brewing process and embrace continuous improvement.
    • Obsession with cleaning and sanitization.
    • Ability to venture outside the lines every once in a while, – because we do that a lot.
    • Ability to work any brewing shift (no overnight required)
    • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations
    • Fork-lift certification and low-pressure boiler license - preferred
    • Valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record

    Working Conditions
    • Capable of standing for long periods of time
    • Able to lift up to 75 lbs.
    • Capable of safe and competent work on and around potentially hazardous machinery, equipment, chemicals and systems
    • Able to work in an environment with high noise
