    The Glass Jug Beer Lab, an award-winning craft brewery, bottle shop, and beer garden based in Durham, NC, is expanding production through an alternating proprietorship at the Rocky Mount Mills, located in Rocky Mount, NC.

    We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to take the reins as our lead brewer in Rocky Mount, working in an alternating proprietorship (AP) brewery alongside multiple other breweries, scheduling the use of shared equipment (brewhouse, canning line, and keg washer).

    This individual will be responsible for all functions of the brewing process in Rocky Mount, inclusive of raw ingredient inventory, brewing, daily cellar work, routine cleaning of equipment and kegs, and packaging (kegs and cans).

    The lead brewer will coordinate with the Owner/Head Brewer regarding packaging runs and double-batch brew days where additional help is needed in Rocky Mount.

    We anticipate brewing 60 bbls/month in Rocky Mount on a 10 bbl ABS brewhouse into two 20-bbl and two 10bbl unitanks. The lead brewer will have the opportunity to provide valuable input on recipe and SOP development.

    In addition to brewing 1-2 batches each week and the associated cellar work in Rocky Mount, additional responsibilities will likely include a combination of beer sales and/or delivery from Rocky Mount to the Raleigh/Durham area. We want this individual to be an integral part of our team, proud of the beer he/she is making, and willing to jump in and help with non-brewing tasks whenever needed, as we are a small team at this point in time. You will not be alone on an island in Rocky Mount - we want someone who will be integrated with our team and all aspects of our business, even if working an hour away from most of our other operations.

    This a full-time 35-40+ hours/week salaried position. Sales work will allow the employee to earn commission in addition to the established base salary.

    Job responsibilities include:
    • Assist in planning of brew schedule and new recipe development
    • Assist in developing and implementing SOPs for Rocky Mount brewery
    • Maintain a safe work environment, follow all safety protocols and regulations
    • Maintain an updated and accurate inventory of raw ingredients (hops, grain, yeast, etc) and finished goods.
    • Prioritizing, planning out, and organizing of operations each day
    • Schedule and execute all brewing and cellar work for 10bbl brewhouse and four unitanks
    • Work together with RMM and other AP breweries to coordinate scheduling of shared equipment (canning line, keg washer, & brewhouse)
    • Management of all production-related tasks in Ekos
    • Regular cleaning and CIP on brewhouse, HX, tanks, hoses, kegs, etc.
    • Lead packaging runs (16oz cans on an ABE canning line) & coordinate assistance on packaging and double-batch brew days.
    • Manage a yeast program for 2-3 unique strains, maintaining yeast viability and vitality from batch to batch.
    • Basic lab & QC tests to ensure quality product (wort stability, forced fermentation, package stability, etc.)
    • 10-15 hours a week of product sales and/or delivery (self-distribution) in the Raleigh/Durham area. Company van provided for delivery. Reimbursement for mileage on any personal vehicle used for sales.
    • Be an example of professionalism at all times; conduct yourself as an example that others can look to, especially in a shared brewery environment.
    • Other production or non-production tasks as assigned by the owner and head brewer
    Required experience and abilities:
    • We are a small team of dedicated beer professionals - a positive attitude is a must
    • Minimum 2 years of relevant brewing experience
    • Brewing-related certification or degree preferred
    • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
    • Ability to work around alcohol responsibly
    • QA/QC and Sensory Evaluation experience preferred
    • Intensive attention to detail
    • Ability to work unsupervised while maintaining safety and quality standards
    • Self-motivated with excellent time management skills
    • Ability to manage multiple processes at one time
    • Mechanically minded; able to fix problems as they arise
    • Ability to effectively communicate with team members who are not on-site
    • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends due to AP schedule
    • Ability to share a space effectively with other breweries, coordinating the use and cleaning of shared equipment with other AP tenants.
    • Ability to meet the physical challenges of working in a production brewery
    • Forklift experience preferred
