Head Brewer - Cavendish Brewing Company - (Gastonia, NC)

    Head Brewer
Cavendish Brewing in Gastonia, NC (Suburb of Charlotte, NC) is looking to hire an experienced and passionate brewer for the head brewer position. We are looking for a rock star to both brew our flagships and expand our beer program with creative new ideas, while also taking a leadership role of the production team and brewery.
The ideal candidate has a degree (brewing degree not required), 4+ years’ experience brewing on a professional level (2+ years’ experience will be considered for the right candidate), and is craving an opportunity for growth, leadership and creative latitude. Our system is a 16bbl custom engineered and built brewing system with multiple upgrades that reduce labor/time and improve quality, and it's truly a pleasure to brew on. Our equipment has all the bells and whistles – grain auger feed, grist tank, triple steam jacket heat control, double sized boiler, laser sloped and coated giant brew pad, Self-contained CIP system, semi-auto keg cleaner, as well as a forklift and more.
Applicants must have experience as a full-time brewhouse operations leader, with substantial understanding of:
    • Fermentation science, wort production and biochemistry
    • Tank cleaning and sanitation as well as transfer and clarification of finished beer
    • Candidates should be exceptionally passionate about beer and microbiology. Basic chemistry skills are required.
    • Well-honed communication, leadership and teaching skills are an absolute must, as is ability to work well on a team.
    • Spreadsheet competence, attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are required.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Brewhouse and cellar operations: processing wort and beer, CIP, keg cleaning/filling, yeast management and health assessment, recipe formulation, ingredient ordering and inventory, tap room and wholesale order filling, packaging (canning), and general brewery tasks.
    • Promotion of our products – In beer community, beer festivals, taproom beer education, Beer competitions, and other venues as opportunities arise.
    Physical Endurance:
    • The typical brewery strength and endurance requirements apply - brewery work can at times be very physically challenging and days are occasionally 10 hrs., so endurance and strength are key requirements - must be able to lift 65# to shoulder height, maneuver 165# kegs on the floor or on pallets, and lift 165 kegs occasionally (We encourage and support 2 person lifts on full half kegs for safety).
Cavendish Brewing is a small but awesome company with a positive vibe and friendly welcoming culture, so it’s important that you are upbeat, friendly, punctual, open-minded, contribute to an inclusive healthy work environment, and dedicated to the craft and mission.

    Timing:
    • We are looking to fill the position by May 15th with the right candidate

    Bonus skills:
    • Familiarity with EKOS brewery software
    • Familiarity with Beer Smith
    • You are very handy, and good at fixing things. Plumbing, electrical, mechanical, etc.

    Compensation:
    • Competitive Salary consistent with experience
    • Paid Vacation
    • Performance Bonuses and Incentives
    • Relocation subsidy available for right candidate
