The Head Brewer reports to the Production Manager / Director of Brewing and is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the NW Portland production facility from grain to can. The Head Brewer will have a fundamental understanding of the brewing process, all day to day operations, processes and equipment. The Head Brewer will have very strong communication and be able to direct, education, and collaborate with team members. The Head Brewer will have a strong ability to immediately address, troubleshoot and correct any issues that may arise in production. This will include bettering / creating processes and/or protocol to keep safety of staff and quality of beer at extremely high standards.

Day to Day Responsibilities
- Manage the brewing, cellar, and packaging teams to ensure safe, effective & efficient workflow. Ensure daily documentation is recorded accurately and completely. Stepping in when needed to fulfill any position as needed
- Assist with recipe development, artwork, and general creative development of the Great Notion brand
- Work with production leads/managers to ensure all products are on schedule to be completed and packaged on time. Address and correct any issues, reporting to management with any major issues or delays
- Work with management/maintenance to troubleshoot or repair any faulty equipment
- Facilitate future growth of the brewery through continuous optimization of current process. As well as developing and training new processes and/or equipment
- Constantly looking for and encouraging team members to improve safety, quality and efficiency of all aspects of production
- Coordinate with sales and logistics to ensure packaging schedules are coordinated for weekly releases and shipments
- Manage inventory of all brewing ingredients, working with the Production Manager and Cellar Manager ensuring all ingredients are available to meet production schedules
- Work with the Production Manager to facilitate, install, and train on new equipment
- Assist in annual reviews for promotion and compensation of all brewing, cellar, and packaging team members
- Promote a fun workplace culture of education, safety, creativity, & collaboration.
- Independently and efficiently prioritize personal responsibilities and general brewery needs.
- Work with the Production Manager / Brewing Director to project and fulfill future staffing needs
- Assist in the development of OSHA standardized safety protocols
- All other tasks as needed.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Must be 21 years of age at the time of application
- Experience working in a 8,000 BBL+ production brewery
- Strong ability to multitask, troubleshoot, problem solve and execute plans of action
- Must be mechanically inclined, able to take apart and rebuild a variety of equipment
- Strong desire to learn, teach and collaborate
- Self starter. Must be able to, and enjoy starting projects with little or no guidance.
- Must be computer literate and be able to work efficiently with google suite, docs and spreadsheets. Experience with Ekos brewery management software is a plus
- Awesome attitude at all times, especially while handling difficult and stressful situations.
- Desire to work in a fast paced and rapidly growing company
- Must have a creative/experimental outlook of beer
- Willing to work evenings and weekends
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Able to regularly kneel, climb, bend, crawl, twist, lift and carry 55 pounds.
- Able to stand, walk, be on your feet for long periods of time.
- Able to move 200+ pounds using appropriate equipment.
- Able to work in an environment which may be hot, cold, loud and/or slippery.
- Able to work in mentally stressful situations in the conditions listed above.
Compensation
- $55-75K Annual Salary D.O.E.
- 1 Week paid vacation 1st year, 2 weeks paid vacation 2nd+ year
