  • Brewer/Cellarperson at Black Bottle Brewery, Fort Collins, CO

Black Bottle Brewery in Fort Collins, CO is looking to hire a Cellerperson/Brewer with experience as a smaller scale “Jack or Jill of all trades” Brewer. We are an award winning Brewpub with 40 taps and an 8 barrel system that brews a wide variety of beer. Despite our smaller scale brewhouse, our average yearly output (pre Covid) is ~1600 barrels.

The Cellarperson/Brewer performs their duties in accordance with the standard operating procedures which have been established by the Head Brewer.
The qualified applicant should possess the following:
    • Ability to lift 55+ lbs.
    • Ability to stand, crouch, and be on their feet for the duration of the shift.
    • Work in hot, cold, or wet conditions.
    • Work with hazardous chemicals.
    • A strong work ethic.
    • The ability to complete tasks without supervision.
    • A passion for all types of beer.
    • Common sense.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Cellar related tasks including but not limited to: yeast harvesting and maintenance, tank cleaning and sanitation, fining, transferring, dry-hopping, temperature control and record keeping.
    • Adhere to cleaning and organizational regimen as laid out by Head Brewer.
    • Generate ideas to improve all brewing and cellaring processes.
    • Clean kegs.
    • Assisting with bottling & packaging on our 6 head IC Filling bottling machine.
    • Transferring barrel aged beer to tanks.
    • Draft line cleaning.
    • Keeping the brewery area clean, tidy, and shiny.
    • Brewing related tasks including but not limited to: Milling, mashing, lautering, and wort boiling; safe and efficient transfer of wort to fermentation vessels; routine troubleshooting and maintenance; maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of all equipment and work areas; monitor and record process times, temperatures, and gravities.
    • Professionally representing Black Bottle at events and festivals as needed.
Our brewhouse is very manual and includes mashing in with a paddle and graining out with a hoe into buckets. Our brewery is also in a downstairs area so raw materials and spent grain need to be brought downstairs and/or lifted up with a jib crane.
This will be an hourly position focusing more on the cellar work starting with ~24 to 30 hours a week with more as we ramp up production. Pay will be $16-$20 an hour depending on experience. Perks include shift beer & shift meal. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer medical benefits at this time.

We are looking for 2 or more years of experience in a similar role and/or a degree in fermentation science.

To apply, please email your resume and a cover letter to tom@blackbottlebrewery.com with the subject line “Brewer Position”.

    Thanks!
