    Upshift Brewing Company honors the car and motorcycle enthusiasts. Our automotive themed taproom in El Segundo, CA is looking for a like-minded, Head Brewer with a passion for great craft beer.

    We are a 4-vessel, 10 barrel brew house with two 10 bbl and two 20 bbl Unitanks, as well as a 10 & 20 bbl Brite Tank. Our ideal Head Brewer will have a few years of commercial brewing and cellar experience, some brewing education, as well as in-depth knowledge of brewing fundamentals and brewing science. We are looking for someone that has a passion for brewing beer, continuous improvement, problem solving, learning and experimentation. Duties will also include, but will not be limited to, CIP procedures and implementation, the production and packaging of beer, recipe development, working with other members of the team to ensure all beer that leaves the production side is of the highest quality and that the brewery is kept clean, functional, and up to Upshift’s standards at all times.

    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)
    • Come in, on time, prepared to work. Understand the day's objective by communicating with other staff, if present.
    • Clean and operate all brewing equipment to produce the best fermented malt beverage possible.
    • Complete all necessary process documentation accurately and on time.
    • Perform necessary functions.
    • Keep up on keg cleaning and sanitation.
    • Monitor fermentation, notifying management of any concerns or issues.
    • Responsible for daily clean up and maintenance of the brewery area.
    • Perform CIP on all brewing equipment/fermenters as required.
    • Maintain cleaning schedules for the tap wall faucets and beer/CO2 lines
    • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations and notify the Operations Manager of any safety related concerns.
    • Assist with additional tasks as required by the Brewing/Taproom/Production Department.
    • Responsible for full cycle brewing process and operation of brewing equipment for beer production. This includes, but is not limited to, milling, mashing, and lautering, wort boiling, cooling and transferring to fermenters, and cellarman work.
    • No job is too big or too small for our new Head Brewer to complete.
    • Be open to working in the Taproom, when necessary.

    Education and Experience:
    • Looking for someone with 2+ years experience as an Assistant Brewer or Head Brewer
    • Brewing certification, diploma, or degree a plus, but not required

    Special Requirements:
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule: days, nights and or weekends.
    • Must have their own vehicle, valid Driver’s License, current insurance coverage and clean driving record.
    • Obsessive attention to detail, highly focused on brewery cleanliness
    • Fermentation Science education preferred but not required
    • Bottling and Canning experience preferred but not required
    • Forklift certification preferred but not required
    • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
    • Passion for the brewing process and beer
    • Ability to work in hot, cold and wet environments.
    • Flexible schedule
    • Must be at least 21 years of age and pass a background check
    • Willing to become part of the Upshift Family
    • Prefer someone local to the South Bay/LA area

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Strong communication and administration skills to interact with customers, vendors, and coworkers in a professional manner.
    • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures.
    • Must possess superior organizational skills.
    • Possess the ability to multi-task and manage stressful circumstances associated with a fast-paced and evolving work environment.
    • Works well with others, willing to contribute to the Upshift family environment and able to process feedback when needed
    • Proficient using any computer software needed for brewing and/or organizing
    • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
    • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
    • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
    • Good understanding of quality assurance / quality control and problem solving skills and to troubleshoot any beer related issues.

    Physical Demands:
    • Requires walking, standing, and/or driving for more than 90% of the workday. Moves objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent bending, kneeling and lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
