    ASSISTANT BREWER



    JOB PURPOSE:

    The Brewery/Cellar Staff job will be focused on supporting the Brewers in the production of exceptional quality beer. This position will be responsible for providing brew house support and training for a role as a Brewer. This position may also support brewery events and other promotions.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Assist with all fundamental functions of the brewing process according to the brewing schedule.
    • Assist with production of 15BBL & 30BBL batches of beer.
    • Assist with the preparation of brewing ingredients, including malt, hops, and yeast.
    • Assist with monitoring fermentation activity, disposal of yeast, and disposal of spent hops.
    • Assist with monitoring quality, flavor, and carbonation of beers.
    • Assist with raw material inventory, including malt, hops, adjuncts, and yeast.
    • Assist with setup, operation, and break down of the canning line.
    • Follow standard operating procedures and directives of the Brewery Management in regards to brewing operations.
    SAFETY AND OPERATIONAL PROTOCOLS:
    • Follow standard operating procedures and directives in the areas of safety and general operational protocols; manufacturing operations; quality control; cellaring; packaging; and material handling.
    • Complete all required training and complete all required documentation for above-listed topics.
    • Work with other team members to constantly innovate and improve our safety record, beer quality, and operating efficiency.
    CLEANING:
    • Maintain proper cleanliness and organization throughout manufacturing operations.
    • Assist with clean up and wash down of equipment and brewing area after brew days.
    • Scrub brewery tile flooring as needed.
    • Operate keg washer per standard operating procedures and clean kegs on a weekly basis or as needed.
    • Clean and sanitize fermenters, serving tanks, and brewery hardware with industrial grade chemicals per standard operating procedures.
    • Clean and organize the basement and mill room as needed.
    • Passivate fermenters, serving tanks, and other equipment as needed.
    • Assist with cleaning of draft lines as needed.
    CELLARING:
    • Operate all cellar equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
    • Maintain yeast harvest and disposal as per standard operating procedures.
    • Assist with dry hopping and disposal of spent hops as per standard operating procedures.
    • Carbonate finished beer per Head Brewer’s specifications.
    • Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and on time.
    • Maintain inventory as needed, and report low levels of inventory to Lead Brewer and other Brewery management.
    BREWING:
    • Assist with milling grain and preparing other raw materials for brewing.
    • Assist with wort production, gathering hops and other ingredients as needed.
    • Grain out and assist in moving spent grain drums as needed.
    PACKAGING:
    • Assist with setup and breakdown of canning machine, pressure labeler, and depalletizer.
    • Prepare hot stamp date coder for canning run.
    • Assist with loading brite cans onto depalletizer, packing out filled cans into case trays, application of paktechs, and stocking Cold Box with new inventory on canning days.
    • Organize keg and can inventory in Cold Box as needed.
    • Help clean taproom floors and reset furniture after canning runs.
    • Assist with bottling limited release beers.
    OTHER DUTIES:
    • Assist other departments as necessary.
    • Participate and represent the brewery at various tastings, festivals, and/or beer events, both on-site and off-site as needed.
    • Assist with unloading raw materials during deliveries and then moving them into inventory space.
    • Assist with oak barrel transportation, including loading and off-loading.
    • As needed, assist with beer delivery to accounts and/or local residences (kegs and cases).
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
    • Possess valid driver’s license.
    • Possess high school diploma.
    • Flexible schedule with availability to work early mornings and weekends.
    • Prior work experience with brewing and/or home-brewing experience, formal brewing education is preferred.
    • Possess working knowledge of beer and the craft beer industry.
    • Possess exceptional work ethic, organizational skill, attention to detail, ability to multitask efficiently, and keep accurate records.
    • Possess basic troubleshooting skills applicable to a brewing and manufacturing setting.
    • Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively with all staff.
    • Possess understanding of ABC laws that pertain to breweries.
    • Possess awareness of local, state, and federal health and sanitation laws.
    • Able to lift heavy objects (25 – 55 lbs.) on a continual basis to shoulder height. Able to transport up to 160 lbs. (full kegs) from ground to waist, along the floor, or with assistance. Able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for up to 8 hours per shift. Able to work in crowded and confined spaces.
    • Able to work safely with chemicals with reasonable safety accommodations.
    • Able to work in a loud environment.
    • Able to operate a pallet jack and material handling equipment safely.
    • Able to frequently climb stairs, ramps, and ladders.
    • Able to maintain excellent customer service and a high level of ethics while working under pressure.
    • Agreeable to North Park Beer Company’s core values, mission, and vision.
    • Ability to work and communicate well with all staff.

    Brewery Management, Lead Brewer

    POSITION TYPE:

    30-40+ hours per week, Non-Exempt*

    COMPENSATION:

    Commensurate based on experience.
