A little about us. Opening our doors in 2018, Varietal Beer Company is a small but growing brewery in Sunnyside WA. We are rooted in the lower Yakima Valley, the very heart of Hop Country. At Varietal, we are devoted to creating distinct ales and lagers using the abundance of local resources grown in our region, much of it by the customers enjoying pints in our taproom. We are committed to supporting our community by providing a relaxed family atmosphere, award winning beers and a unique experience for people visiting our corner of the world.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Head Brewer, the Brewer will be involved in all aspects of working in a production facility, to include: wort production, fermentation, transfers, packaging and yeast management. This is a mentally and physically intensive position that requires exceptional motivation, strong communication skills, ability to coordinate with team members and excellent professionalism.

Expectations of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Ingredient handling and measurement
- Brew wort on a 10 bbl single infusion mash brewhouse
- Fermentation monitoring and documentation
- Dry hopping
- CIP/SIP of all brewery and cellar vessels
- Transfer / Rack / filter beer in progress
- Keg cleaning
- Packaging of beer into kegs and cans
- Basic equipment maintenance
- Production Facilities maintenance (cleaning of floors, surfaces, and common areas)
- Participation in QA/QC panels
Qualifications
- 1-2 years commercial brewery experience preferred, some formal education may be substituted in lieu of experience
- Direct knowledge of brewing processes, science, and quality control measures
- Ability to work with others and receive constructive criticism and feedback
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
- A strong work ethic and desire to succeed
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve in a timely and effective manner
- Experience with Excel/Sheets and Word
- A valid drivers license and clean driving record
Physical requirements
- Be able lift and move 55 lbs. independently, and 170 lbs. with assistance
- Ability to work effectively in extreme temperatures from freezing to 100+F, in wet conditions and with continuous moderate noise levels
- Work while predominantly standing for 8-10 hours per day
- Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl in and around equipment and tight spaces with no difficulty
- Function at heights of up to 10 feet or more
- Knowledge and ability to operate forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment
