Flying Machine is extremely excited to continue our growth and evolve in a challenging and competitive market, and in response to growing demand and resulting production, we have created and filled the position of “Director of Brewing Operations”. The resulting opportunity from this new division is our search for a “Head Brewer” for the production facility located in Wilmington, NC. Flying Machine Brewing Company is an independent craft brewery which opened in Fall 2018. The brewery is dedicated to brewing the highest quality of craft beer and aims to innovate and push boundaries in the industry. Flying Machine has a vibrant taproom space in Wilmington, a restaurant in Wrightsville Beach, and distributes beer throughout the states of North Carolina and South Carolina. This is an opportunity to join the brewery’s Production team in its home market. Flying Machine is looking for exceptional candidates who share our appreciation for quality products and who are excited about bringing those products to the market.
Position Summary:
We’re hiring a Head Brewer with extensive previous experience in brewing operations. As the Head Brewer, your primary responsibilities will include the performance of day-to-day brewing operations.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Working with the Director of Brewing Operations to produce quality product while maintaining the brand’s reputation for quality standards for all batches, both in tank and in the market;
• Recipe Development and managing beer quality through all processes;
• CIP/SIP operations;
• Yeast collecting, pitching, and viability checks;
• Managing day-to-day brewing operations;
• Managing the staff who will assist with day-to-day brewing operations in conjunction with the Director of Brewing Operations;
• Participate in the production of beer from start to finish;
• Work with the Director of Brewing Operations and Managing Members on a production schedule;
• Other duties assigned by the Director of Brewing Operations and/or the Managing Members;
Required Qualifications:
• Prior experience in a role that includes, but is not limited to; Head Brewer, Lead Brewer, Production Lead, Operations Manager;
• Full and detailed knowledge and understanding of all Flying Machine beers, the local market, and the overall NC craft beer community;
• Strong oral and written communication skills so as to relay information effectively and efficiently;
• Strong organizational and cleanliness skills;
• Willingness to participate in continuing education in terms of new beer styles and current market trends;
• Emphasis on a formal brewing education or 5-10 years of experience in a brewery
