    Brewer JOB DESCRIPTION, DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS

    SUMMARY:

    Trap Door Brewing is a 15 bbl brewery located in uptown Vancouver, WA. Founded in 2015, we brew a range of fun and contemporary styles, as well as more balanced and traditional beers. We are known for our flavorful Hazy IPAs, DIPAs, Fruited Sour Ales, Adjunct Stouts, and Lagers.

    We are a small business with 7 employees. We produce roughly 1000 bbls annually and are operating at capacity. There is a taproom on premise that is a gathering point for beer enthusiasts, locals, and tourists alike. Trap Door’s future lies in opening a second location and building a larger brewing facility. As Brewer 1 at Trap Door you will be setting yourself up to grow professionally with a well-respected craft brewery.

    We are looking for a brewer who is passionate about beer, is a self-starter, and hard worker. Mechanical aptitude, solid grounding in brewing theory, and a creative mind set are required. Brewer 1 is responsible for creating beer for the consumer from raw material to packaging. Your responsibilities range from wort production, cellaring, barrel work, and packaging to tap cleaning, brewery maintenance and dry hopping.


    JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
    • Pre-Production – Raw material organization, inventory, management and assessment
    • Brewing – Brewing to recipes to specification, attention to detail and record keeping, following and improving solid manufacture techniques.
    • Following S.O.P.s
    • Yeast – sanitary yeast management, cell counts & viability, harvesting, pitching, fermentation tracking and analysis
    • Cellar – transfer with focus on low D.O., racking, carbonating, vessel CIP & purging, HLT management, quality assurance and control
    • Packaging – keg cleaning and filling, canning assistance (mobile), specialty bottle filling
    • Barrel Beer – help establish a growing barrel program, sampling as needed.
    • Cleaning – maintain a clean and sanitary brewing environment
    • Safety – work safely, help establish and maintain a safe work environment following acceptable industry standards
    • Record keeping – brewhouse, cellar, packaging, shipping, cleaning, maintenance, etc.
    • Recipe development – create unique recipes, assist in improving existing recipes, assist with recipe development with head brewer
    • Inventory – maintain inventory records daily, audit inventory monthly
    • Brewery Events – participate in brewery festivals and promotional events
    • Sales – assist with facilitating sales, sales calls, and self-distribution deliveries




    IDEAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Ability to communicate well verbally, through email, and texts.
    • Ability to multi-task and work to a deadline
    • Ability to work unsupervised while maintain safety and quality standards
    • Ability to identify and solve problems
    • Must be self-motivated and a self-starter.




    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
    • Minimum 2 years experience in production environment of 2,000+ barrels per year and/or formal brewing education
    • Grounded knowledge of brewery technology and process
    • Grounded knowledge of brewing science and engineering
    • Experience/ knowledge of, and a passion for “modern” beer
    • Mechanical aptitude, can use tools and perform reasonable maintenance of brewery related equipment
    • Must have the ability to identity and complete daily brewery tasks
    • Ability to work in fast paced environment
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, weekends, nights and early mornings included.
    • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including but not limited to standing for extended periods, lifting 55 lbs without assistance, work in a physically small environment, climbing stairs, assisting in lifting/moving items in excess of 55lbs
    • Proficiency in google sheets and docs
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record

    Employee Benefits:
    • Salary: ($20-$24 / hr) D.O.E.
