    Production Brewer/Cellar (Ypsilanti, MI)

    Production Brewer/Cellar (Corner Brewery, Ypsilanti,Mi)

    This full-time hourly position directly reports to the Lead Brewer as well as the Head Brewer and Operations Manager. This is a broad opportunity as this person will be utilized across our production space between the brewhouse, cellar and canning line. The primary tasks for this individual will be operating the brewhouse and producing wort (some 2nd shift/weekend hours will be required; 2nd shift is typically 1pm – 9pm, can be 2-4 days/week), and serving as a key part of our cellar team, preparing beer for package (FV/BT CIP, centrifuge, FV/dry-hop additions, kegging beer etc.). As needed, assistance will be provided to the packaging team.
    Primary Brewing Duties may include:
    • Routine production of wort to spec. by recipe (Use of pH/DO meter, density meter, etc.)
    • Effective CIP and routine maintenance of brewhouse equipment
    • Preparation/harvest of yeast/yeast brinks for pitching

    Primary Cellar Duties may include:
    • Regular monitoring of beer-in-process (gravity, pH, dissolved oxygen, etc.)
    • Preparation of fermenters/brite tanks for transfer of wort/beer
    • Preparation of ingredients to recipe as well as maintaining clean condition of ingredient storage areas.
    • CIP and operation of dry-hop induction pump
    • CIP and operation of GEA centrifuge
    • Regular operation and maintenance of keg washer
    • Preparation of parts for kegging and subsequent kegging of beer
    • Assist with cleaning/maintenance of tap lines, as well as festival equipment upkeep and preparation.
    • Assist in maintaining cellar in orderly/clean condition
    • Attending and working brewery events, onsite and off premise
    • As needed, support the packaging team with canning of beer.

    Candidates must share our team-wide approach toward maintaining focus on quality and safety and will have a passion for adhering to establish SOPs/specifications and for creating consistent, outstanding craft beer!


    Desired Qualifications and Skills:
    • Must be 21 years of age or older
    • 1-2 years professional brewing experience preferred and/or a degree from a recognized brewing education program.
    • General knowledge of the brewing and fermentation processes
    • Able to work a flexible schedule including mornings, days, nights, weekends and holidays.
    • Education minimum: High School or equivalent.
    • Valid driver's license
    • Prior forklift operation/certification
    • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting experience desirable
    • Basic computer skills (Email, Microsoft Office, etc.)
    • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change on short notice and willing to do any job that is required for successful operation of the brewery
    • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
    • A desire to work as part of team but also can work independently, with initiative and maintain focus and demeanor in a fast-paced environment
    Job Requirements:
    • Able to repeatedly lift 60lbs or more above waist-level and stand for long periods of time
    • Able to regularly twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, crawl, climb ladders & stairs, lift &carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds using appropriate techniques and tools
    • Possess good dexterity to manipulate hoses, valves, and clamps
    • Able to comply with safe chemical handling procedures, including personal protection equipment such as gloves and goggles
    • Able to remain calm in a high-stress environment and troubleshoot as needed.
    • Strong organizational, communication and documentation skills
    • Able to learn quickly, work independently and unsupervised while still following established SOPs.
    • Able to work in a factory/production type environment that may be humid, hot, loud, cold, slick and that often has trip and head height hazards.
